Navy Dads

We thought we might do something a little different this year and start a discussion area where folks could paste some "Words of Remembrance" or prayers for the lost from 9-11. We all hold dark memories from that day, but while the scope of the tragedy unfolded, we also saw the very best of America-- story after story about heroic people stepping forward and doing what Americans have done for generations....they came to volunteer and help without hesitation or question. Use this area to record your words or memories of that horrific day and offer a prayer for the lost and their families.

My wife and I worked for the State of New York at the time of the first WTC bombing. Her boss was in the towers that day but was not injured. By 2001 we had moved to California but our SR and his sister having been born in Vermont and New York maintained a close interest in events there. It was with horror we watched the news of the attacks and the death unfold that morning. I have spoken since with a friend who watched the death and destruction from his office window that faced the Twin Towers. No video can express the pain nor words describe what he feels even today.

Our sons and daughters, the Seaman Recruits at RTC today, have volunteered their lives to protect our freedom from the fear and tyranny of acts of terror - the freedom to worship and to live as we choose. God bless each one of them.
I had a surgeon's appt. He is from Louisiana, and his family is from Egypt.

His wife was so very upset. He saved my life as a result of that visit. The fear and sadness in his office wads tangible.

I had a hobby prior to 9-11. I don't know why, but that day I stopped doing it. The equipment still sits on the shelves.

My major memory is of a poem written in honor
Of the rescue workers. It describes the boots running up the stairs as the tenants ran down.

When my son graduated C School, the Commander of the training center said how special it is in his rating. Not
Only joining in a time of war, but this rating is running to the sound of the guns. Like the boots going up as the shoes ran down.
I used to be a member of our county HAZMAT TEAM, I remember our pagers and radios going nuts. Then my Mom called me and said turn your tv on. All I could do was watch my generations Pearl Harbor unfold. Please protect our Sailors, Airmen, and Marines
I pray that all the families are doing good and are remembering their loved ones in the good that they did to help everybody out in the way that they could.
I was a 3rd year apprentice (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers..IBEW) working in the penthouse of the Kaiser Hospital here in town. Just me and my journeyman running some 1 1/2 rigid to feed a new cooler on the roof of the building... Some came up and told us about the first plane going in and we were kinda thinking along the lines of "it was some sort of an accident."

When we went to break (I live on the west side of the country) everybody and I mean EVERYBODY was in a stunned silence. There were a hundred or so guys working in that area and you could almost hear a pin drop from the silence...it was very crazy to say the least. All of the big construction guys staring off into nana land, stunned. We did not have access to a TV, there were radio reports that we were listening to. The hospital actually went on a special reaction type of thing...kinda like code red, code blue, code pink...I think that they called it code black and ALL of the administrators were in their little command structure like that (snapping a finger)...

GOD Bless the United States of America...Our Republic

GOD Bless the families of those who perished that fateful day, as well as, those who have since died from inhaling all of that asbestos and other debris that buggered up their lungs.

GODSPEED to US all!

As a side note...my wife was at home and watched the 2nd plane fly into the tower. She was in tears for most of that day and the next thinking about what she had just witnessed...
I was self employed at the time and was working out with the TV on watching the news as everyting was unfoldeding, this including watching the second being hitting as it happened. I called my brother at work to see if they were watching on his job. It was mind numbing. At that time my sons were just going to turn 14, I am a product the of the Woodstock/Viet Nam war generation and was fearful for the sons/daughters, fearful there would be another draft. I remember my friends of those other years and what happened to them.
As it turns out 9/11 is the first day of my son's enlistment in the Navy in 2008. So the date marks for me great pride in my son and the choices he has made. But it also brings great sadness remembering what happened to so many wonderful innocent people.
I have thought alot recently about today 9/11. I have thought about what I was doing that day. I have thought about all the civilian and military lives lost. I thought about all the Fire and Police that came to help and lost heir lives. Also of the hundreds who stayed or came in the weeks to come to help in New York and at the Pentagon. I have thought of my daughter who is a week from being one of the newest Sailors in our Navy. I have much pride and sorrow as I have thought about all of this. 9/11/2001 I was Firefighter/EMT for a Midwest Fire Department on my days off. My wife and I were at our Church to do some work when the Pastor came in and told us of the Towers in New York. We found a TV and set it up in the office and watched with the world as the morning unfolded trying to get our head wrapped around what was happening. As we began to get the numbers in the weeks to come my heart and mind was with all my firefighter and police comrades and their families. I didn't have the opportunity to go to New York, but I have friends that did and one who had the task of sitting with rescue works and listening as they talked. The news and experience they all related teared at your heart and soul. We also had a nephew who was finishing C-School in the Navy. As the President ramped up the response to the Attack on America, he was racing across the Pacific Ocean to catch up with his Ship the Abraham Lincoln which was now steaming to the Persian Gulf to support our efforts in Iraq. As I have read the other posts here and shared this story it hits home again how all ours lives were impacted that day 9 years ago. Today and every day I remember those who perished on 9/11 and proudly support and pray for our men & women of the United States Armed Forces. May God protect and hold you up as you protect and defend all of us.
SEPTEMBER 11 MESSAGE...BEAUTIFUL...
'MEET ME IN THE STAIRWELL'
You say you will ne...ver forget where you were when you heard the news On September 11, 2001. Neither will I.
I was on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room with a man who called his wife to say 'Good-Bye.' I held his fingers steady as he dialed. I gave him the peace to say,
'Honey, I am not going to make it, but it OK..I am ready to go.'
I was with his wife when he called as she fed breakfast to their children. I held her up as she tried to understand his words and as she realized he wasn't coming home that night.
I was in the stairwell of the 23rd floor when a woman cried out to Me for help.
'I have been knocking on the door of your heart for 50 years!' I said.
'Of course I will show you the way home - only believe in Me now.'
I was at the base of the building with the Priest ministering to the injured and devastated souls. I took him home to tend to his Flock in Heaven. He heard my voice and answered.
I was on all four of those planes, in every seat, with every prayer.
I was with the crew as they were overtaken.
I was in the very hearts of the believers there, comforting and assuring them that their faith has saved them.
I was in Texas, Virginia, California, Michigan, Afghanistan.
I was standing next to you when you heard the terrible news. Did you sense Me? I want you to know that I saw every face. I knew every name - though not all knew Me.
Some met Me for the first time on the 86th floor.
Some sought Me with their last breath.
Some couldn't hear Me calling to them through the smoke and flames;
'Come to Me... this way... take my hand.'
Some chose, for the final time, to ignore Me. But, I was there.
I did not place you in the Tower that day.
You may not know why, but I do.
However, if you had been there in that explosive moment in time, would you have reached for Me?
Sept. 11, 2001, was not the end of the journey for you. But someday your journey will end. And I will be there for you as well.
Seek Me now while I may be found. Then, at any moment, you know you are 'ready to go.'
I will be in the stairwell of your final moments.

GOD

This is Awesome Cora!!!! Thank you so much for posting this! Lord Bless!!!
On a passing note... I am soooooooooooooooooooo sick of how the main stream media (MSM) and the major networks handled this day. Fox news had some very touching tribute stuff... The History channel was pretty much all 9/11 all day long...yes I am sure it helped with their ratings...but still I think the major outlets can take a flying leap. When they stop calling the terrorists islamic terrorists, militants or what have you for political correctness reasons...they are waving their white flags and giving up.

This should NEVER BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN. We suffer enough disinformation from those in charge of our Republic - a POTUS that apologizes for the greatness of our country and a legislature that does not think for their constituents but for those who give the highest amounts of moola to their cause (those who line their deep pockets)...

Rant over. I am sorry to hijack the thread.

GODBLESS the US of A

Maybe it would be a good time to reread the replies to the 9/11 posts and how we felt. Has anything changed? Can't believe what we're doing to out country right now.

Thanks Dick for posting.....embarrassed to say I had forgotten I had started this discussion- so glad you found it and by posting made me reread everything others posted about that day.....our generation's day of infamy
