Chuck, hopefully Nick is doing that as we speak. He has always found it easy to make friends. Gary T.

Gary,
One of the things my son has been able to do is make some good friends. They make the duty stations better and add to the memories.

Chuck, the car isn't much of an issue at present. He does have a good friend he met at Great Lakes A-School and chummed around with while attending C-School in San Diego and who is now on his ship. They do a lot together and are quite good at using public transportation. This month RIMPAC will be taking up much of his time. Next month he will be in San Diego again for his second C-School then more maneuvers and maybe a deployment. The busier he stays the better. More money in his pocket is the way I see it. Gary T.

My son was almost stranded on his base. He is staioned on the Marine base on the windward coast. No shuttles there. No regular buses. He was lucky to have a godd roomate till he bought his car.

Gary, Our son sold his car while in boot camp as he had close to two years of schooling - he is an FC. He spent a good eight months in Pearl Harbor without a car. They have a shuttle they gets around the base and of course a friend or two with a car helps but he finally caved and bought a car.

His name is also...Nick. The ship did assign him to the barracks shortly after he arrived in Hawaii as they were in the yards when he arrived and he is able to stay there until he reaches E5.

Hubby served on a CG while he was in the Navy - nice size ship.

Thank Mary, my son lives on the ship. No barracks yet and not enough rank to have an apartment and yes no car. Didn't want to listen to dad about having the car placed on his orders. Oh well, he will learn. Gary T.

Hi all and Happy 4th of July!

Our son is with a destroyer in Pearl Harbor but they recently deployed and this is his first deployment. He has been in HI for just about one year and has enjoyed his time at the beaches and hiking. He also bought a Jeep there - if your sailors deploy make sure you take advantage of "storage" insurance rates if that applies.
