Hey any one here?

I think the main concern would be to find a reputable agency to find leases and also a good neighborhood. I think anything less then $2000 a month wouldn't be much to look at.

Thanks Jack.  Andrew was telling me the same kind of thing.  That he and his roomate would end up pocketing money at the end of the month.

Andrew has told me a number of times of some of the stupid stuff.  When uniform allowance is in the pay check a number of the sailors around plan a poker game with the "extra money" and these same guys were whining about the cost of their new work uniforms when they were filling sea bags for deployment.

I do know they receive a an allowance when they live off base. I think they should be continually taught to save and not spend. Most will get out of the NAVY owing more then they went in with. My son has all his bills paid. He just doesn't know how to hold on to anything. If he makes this next promotion cycle he will have that much more to throw away.

I know what you mean Gary. Andrew told me that the Navy's BEH ia pretty generous. With it being paid like per deum (spelling?) thre is a mininmum amout of paper work. BUT, these guys never think of the hidden costs. Deposits for the housing deposits for the utilities.....and morr and more. Well you know! .

That is what I heard and believe to be true. He has not officially spoke to me about it but did mention it to one of his brothers. I feel the same about eating off base as I do about living off base. The NAVY will feed and house you more cheaply then any group of sailors could. What do I know, I'm just a parent who has been there done that.

Andrew was thinking off base this spring.  He was told that he had not been in the Navy long enough.  Might be a local command rule or perhaps a Navy Region Hawaii rule.  At any rate I remember reading somewhere that they wanted a single guy to be an E-5 prior to moving off base.

Having a vehicle helps. He has one in Hawaii and one at home. Now he is talking about living off base with three other sailors. Don't know how he is going to pull that one off. He is only an E-4. These kids, the government gives them a place to stay and they want to spend money to stay on there own. I know an E-5 can get assistance for housing. I don't know, I give up. He is 23.
