Sounds good. For what do you write? I work on EP-3s and P-3Cs. I am fully qualified in the AE shop.
SH-2F Seasprite. Assigned to HSL-36 81-85 out of Mayport Florida. Fun little helo to work on. Stayed with Aviation when I got out....Worked Avionics for years and now I am an Avionics Tech Writer.
New to this group...Hello all. Getting ready to send a Son to Boot Camp in April. He will be third generation Navy. I am proud he will carry on the tradition. Look forward to catching some updates and advice from you all on the "best way" to do things....ie. trip to Great Lakes. Its been a long time since I was in and things have changed. Regards....Former AE2
Plane captain is a very important qual and colateral duty. It will help him troubleshoot by learning the aircraft better.
Your welcome, He will have to do his "general duty" soon. That is something like Galley service or whatever type of menial duty for about a month. Then he will come back and pick up his quals again. Be advised the ship phone is often hard to hear and understand them. We used Skype a lot when he landed in a port and jumped on an internet connection. Hopefully he will make the best of it, enjoy !
Ralph, it is totally up to how many new people are coming in and how many are leaving the "shop" he needs to get in. There is a lot of responsibility in Plane Captain and they learn A LOT ! Our son was on the "line shack" doing plane captain for about 6 months. Very last of one cruise and the start of the next before the shop opened up. He needs to spend "extra" time on advancement study and warfare pins, wings and/or surface while he has the opportunity to do so.
Congrats Ralph. My daughter is to graduate on the 20th from AO A school. We might see her at Thanksgiving. Nothing is sure till she has her plane ticket.
