ET1 Newell, how do the students make an informed decision when filling out their dream sheets if nobody knows where the C schools are? Do they choose by type of system? Type of ship? There's a information gap here that we can't seem to bridge.

ET A school students haven't "picked" orders in a very long time. When the students enter the Radar Display module, they fill out their dream sheets which are forwarded to the detailer. The detailer will do their best to match requests with the available orders. If it comes down to 2 sailors requesting the same orders and there is only one available, the detailer will take their GPA into account.

Interesting. John filled out his dream sheet a week or so ago. Not sure what is graduating average was. Kind of a bummer that the hard work in A school wont be rewarded.

On a lighter note John is buying a Harley and I will hopefully be driving down to bring him and the bike home next weekend.

Comment by FC1 (SW) Sean M. Officer 1 day ago Larry - As far as I know, this is just for students coming out of FC 'A' school. I wish it was just scuttlebutt but it's come down through official channels and not through the rumor mill. This is not the first time that orders have been selected in this manner. It seems to swing the opposite way every 5 years or so.

Comment by FC1 (SW) Sean M. Officer on September 20, 2010 at 9:14am Good morning all. Sorry it's been so long since I’ve popped in. I see a lot of questions. We had a pretty big inspection here over how we run the schoolhouse and followed that up with a week of leave to go see my kids in San Diego. It was a great time and I got a much needed break. Let me tackle some of these questions.

Jim/Roger - Orders. *sigh* Here's the deal with orders. The Bureau of Naval Personnel (BUPERS) has decided that order picks are not an "efficient" way to do things anymore. There is a lot of back-story as there are things here that changed that caused the program to go to (insert expletive here.) Orders are no longer going to be "picked" the same way they were. Starting last week, Students with a 93% or above graduating average will fill out a "dream sheet" with their top 3 choices for orders. We send the graduating class lists along with the dream sheets to BUPERS and they send us back a list of who is going where. I do not care for the practice. I think picking orders was one of the biggest motivators we have here and taking it away will severely affect the amount of work our students are willing to put in. This is, however, the military and in the end, we go where we're told. If the students want to make a difference as to how orders are selected it needs to make it into the monthly and end of course critiques. It has to be well worded with the problem and the effect to be taken seriously. "This is BS" won't cut it regardless of how upset they are about it.

Paul - Class up time between ATT and 'A' School is next to nothing right now. we didn't even have enough to fill a full class last week. They should start the friday after they finish ATT.

Jim - The current Graduating average is around 87% so your son is a little above the average.

I hope this clears things up a bit.

Cla,

I haven't heard any of these rumors. If you have any more information other than this, I would be happy to look in to it for you.

Respectfully,
ET1

Daaaad. I'm enlisted.

Sad day, though; one of my true Naval role models is being moved from night shift to days. Senior Chief Clark will be greatly missed (any dads with kids in ET A nights, bring him up in conversation, and listen to hear what's said...)
