Its been pretty quiet around here lately. I thought I'd take a minute to report that Rosie is also a night school student but seems to have adapted to it well. She has an average just a hair over 96 and is ranked third in her class. Not bad for a young woman whose only prior exposure to electronics was figuring out how to work her I-pod!

David,

ATT is designed to give basic electronics training to students of many rates before moving on to their respective A schools. Additionally, ATT is a self paced course of instruction. That being the case, there is no real way to gauge when a spot will open up for your son. I would imagine it will only be 2 or 3 weeks at most, but I wouldn't depend on it. While your son is awaiting his class up, I would advise him to log into NKO, he should already know how to do this, and locate the ET A School Communities of Practice page. This will assist him by giving him some idea of what he will be working on once he gets here.

Respectfully,

ET1(SW) Newell...is there any way of finding out at this time when Kevin will class-up to ATT? He had told me that some of the sailors that were staying at the Enterprise left yesterday.

David,

Student wait times vary depending on when there is an opening. If he is at the Enterprise, he is most likely waiting to class up at ATT which is our prerequisite training prior to ET A School. After he completes ATT, he should be waiting no longer than one week to class up. Remind your son that there is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel but in order to reach it, he must complete his training here.

Respectfully,

Question for anyone. My son Kevin is currently staying on the Enterprise waiting to go to A school he has been there for about 9 days...how long will his wait be? What suggestions could you provide to keep his sprits up?

Just got back last week after spending a week with our son. He has grown so much and matured greatly. His 22nd birthday is coming up and his older brother is flying back to spend the weekend with him in Chicago. A school will be over before we know it and it will be on to his next adventure. Hopefully San Diego will be the adventure. He would be able to come home on weekends if he wanted.

Bob - That is so cool that you got to walk around on base. John was supposed to come home for the weekend and had his duty free weekend chit yanked at the last minute. Needless to say we were very disapointed. He called home last night and we talked for quite a while. He is carrying a 92% average to this point it A school and says they should finish up sometime around the end of August. Then back on hold till he gets his next orders. Hard to believe he has been gone 9 months already. I agree Bob that they are in a good place and have a great future ahead of them. This was a good life choice.

We were at Great Lakes this past weekend for the Independence Day celebration. We had to leave early on Sunday and missed the fireworks but the laser show on Saturday was great. Even better was the chance to spend some quality time with our daughter. I had spent a good part of the day just walking around checking the place out and while we were waiting for the light show to begin I impulsively turned to my daughter and said, "You know. Rose, you are in a really good place here." She agreed despite feeling a bit chafed by all of the military restrictions. She is doing well in school and I am so proud of her.

I happened to be back in Chicago on business yesterday and ran into a young Gunner's Mate at the airport. I mentioned that my daughter is an apprentice ET and he told me that she has a great job and in fact was considering striking for that rating himself. It is a choice billet and those who have it should consider themselves lucky.

Those of us in this group are the Dads of some pretty special kids and should feel especially proud because of who our kids are, what they have accomplished so far and what they are about to do.

It is a very good feeling indeed.

Here's the news from Ang: currently at a 95% average, thank you very much. Missed one question on the 3M test. Ah, well.

Also, I absolutely adore ET1 (SW) Newell, our schoolhouse LPO. He takes such good care of us.
