I know that Rosie has spent a lot of time cleaning the ship while waiting for ATT to start. She has become their ladderwell specialist.

Thanks PO Officer. It is nice to know we have an in with someone in the know as far as ET A school goes. My son is finishing ATT next week and will be on hold for the 3 to 4 months. My question is what are you doing to keep these kids busy during the time they are on hold. Having served 21 years, I know for a fact that bored sailors do not make for good order and discipline. Are there any programs they can get involved in? I do know that spring is on its way and the outdoor sports program will start, but that only accounts for part of the dead time. Are there any community outreach programs? Can they go TAD to maintenance facility? Just trying to wrap my arms around what you do with all these guys and gals during this time. Thanks for your service.

I would have to think she checked in on the same day so she should be starting right about the same time. Is it normal practice to move them to a new ship before they start ATT?

Bob, The determining factor is when she checked in to ATT. There were 20 students that checked in on the same day as Clay's daughter. If they checked in on the same day or within a couple of days of eachother then those dates should be close give or take a week. If not, I can take a look and see where she falls on the list.

Larry. Hopefully we will have to wait time down by the time your son gets through ATT. Right now it is still 3-4 months.

ATT is all about basic electronics and the principals of how they work. It starts with basic electricity and works up from there. I haven't gone through the ATT curriculum for 16 years or so and I am sure it's changed in that time. ET'A' I am very familiar with. They start out with some of the basics information that every sailor needs to know some of which include Safety, Technical Manuals, Material Maintenance Management(3M) which is the system we use to track all our equipment maintenance, basic troubleshooting techniques, general test equipment, tools and the Combat System Operational Sequencing System which is a series of books that breaks down how to operate the equipment to such a basic level that anyone can do it. Once they are finished with the first 15 modules, they move on to Communicati0ns equipment and get several different modules on how to operate and troubleshoot basic navy communications gear. This is also where the first labs come in and they can get hands on training. Once they are finished with Comms gear, they move on to the Radar modules where they get more hands on training with some of the Navy's basic radar systems. SPS-64 and SPS-67 for those of you former ETs out there. Radar is the last block of instruction. From there it's on to either 'C' school or their first ship.

My son started ATT in early Feb. and then on to A school. Thanks for answering our questions. After A school where do these ET's go? Is that then C school or do they get assigned to a ship? Thanks

Sean, my daughter graduated from Boot Camp the same day Clay's daughter did. Is she also looking at a start date between the 15th and 19th?
Comment by Larry Jenuwine on March 4, 2010 at 1:25pm
Petty Officer Sean, My son John Jenuwine is currently in ATT. He started in early January so he should be done in a couple weeks or so. Will he be looking at 3 or 4 months to class up for A school?

Clay, Since you were so kind as to provide me with you daughters name, I did a little digging and she should start ATT sometime between the 15th and the 19th of march. That date is a very rough estimate but it is on the long side so she may class up sooner than that.
