Sean, we are glad that you decided to join us in this group. Can you give a brief overview of the subjects that the ETs take during ATT and A School?

Jim, If you give me your son's full name I can do some digging and find out for sure which rate he is going into.

Good Afternoon ladies and gentelmen. This will be a slight modification of the post I left in the FC group. I stumbled upon this site while looking up some old Fire Controlman information on google and though I may be able to be of some help. I am FC1(SW) Sean M. Officer. I am the newly appointed Leading Petty Officer for Combat Systems 'A' Schools. I oversee the FC, ET, IC anf GM 'A' schools. Most of your students will never see me and that is a good thing. I would be more than happy to help clear up any questions. I'll go ahead and address some of the issues I have seen from reading through the posts here.

The ETs go through 2 phases of school here, ATT (10 weeks) and ET 'A' School(18 weeks). There is a wait to get into ATT. I am not sure what it is at the moment but we are making some changes to help reduce training time and get the students into 'A' school a bit faster. The 3-4 month wait between ATT and 'A' school is unfortunately still present but we are working to reduce that wait time. We currently have 3 'A' School shifts with ETs on them. The Night shift is 1530-0030. The "Graveyard" shift is from 0000-0600 but only has 3 classes on it. We are going to let that shift die after these 3 classes due to lack of staff. The Mid-day shift, which is 0930-1800, has just started taking ETs. It was used for FCs for e past 3 months to help reduce the FC population. I cannot speak for ATT's hours as they are a seperate entity but I am more than happy to find out any specifics if needed.

The 'A' School curriculum is currently a combination of Computer Based Training (CBT) and Instructor Lecture. Up until July of last year, the 'A' schools were self paced like ATT. We implimented a "lock step" program that keeps the entire class in the same module and allows the instructors to focus on one topic at a time. The class gets a much more focused type of training that allows us to teach teamwork as well since everyone is working in the same area. I personally like to break the class into groups of 5 to work together on class assignments. Since going to the new style of teaching, we have seen a 5% increase in the course average and the number of Honor Graduates, Students graduating with an average of 90% or higher, has trippled. We have also cut an average of 35 days off the average time to get through the course.

If there are any questions, feel free to ask. I will be sure to check back here from time to time and provide any help I can. In return all I ask is that you make it a point to let you son or daughter know that you are proud of them. It is amazing how far a little support from home goes.

And I've never been able to determine why, but he firmly believes he's going down the FC road, even though he has no orders to my knowledge that tells him that.

We spoke with Chris the other night...he'd been moved to a new ship, not sure which one, but he writes chits now. I don't think he had any idea yet when he would class-up. Said he likes working out, so he's put himself on a regular schedule for that, but he hasn't earned civies yet ;)

Dad, read down the comments.

"They were supposed to start class the 16 of last month, not usre what the hold up is, my daughter is Hannan, Angela. And yeah theyre getting bored.... but this way she may still be here for the winter holidays before they leave for C school...."

You would not be a very good spy. Hiding intelligence isn't your strong suit. :P
