get used to this phrase "The Needs of the Navy"  as that will dictate many things in his future.....if there is a billet open, what his ASVAB scores are, etc..

I asked this elsewhere, but perhaps someone here knows the answer. If they put him ET, is there a chance they'd put him in Nuke ET?

Obviously the needs of the Navy come first but my son chose ET when he signed up and stayed in that rate the whole time (A and then C school)

TNOTN - the needs of the Navy

Can someone tell me, how do they decide whether to put the recruit in ET or FP? Is it based on need? Testing? Is one in more demand than the other?

Hang in there fellas the end is on the horizon.  My son John ended up in SD for the last part of his C school and was attached to the USS Kidd.  He deployed 3 weeks ago with the Stennis group for the Persian Gulf.  While waiting between classes he did a lot of watch duty around the base.   SD is a very cool place and John enjoyed his time there.  We were lucky enough to visit the week before he deployed and went on a one day family cruise aboard the Kidd.  If this opportunity arrises for you I highly recommend attending.  It was outstanding!  Life will settle down for your sailor once C school is complete and John is now a very happy E4.  Wish your sailor smooth seas and following winds for me and thank them for thier service.

@Jim, They kept him busy working on the base, everything from helping students to maintenance.

Matt B., What did they have your son do for the two months while waiting for "C" school?

Comment by Nick Maccarone on August 21, 2011 at 9:49am

My son is in SD for ET C school. Started in April and will be done at the end of Oct. He has not received a ship yet but is loving SD! C school is going well and has been honor grad at each level. He begins the last class next week and will graduate on Oct. 27.

Hey Jim, My son finished ET "A" school two months ago, he's leaving Great Lakes next week for one month of “C” school. Your son will have to wait for his orders to find out where he’s going next, after that, it will all start to come together.
