Have you gottena P.I.R. date yet?
Comment by Larry Gaither on April 9, 2009 at 6:42pm
Thanks

I will be asking questions but we are just trying to get to P.I.R. now. I am hoping he will get what he wants but I feel he will give his all at whatever he is told to do.

Intelchips,
Your son may not have a wait in between att and A-school. Trevor went from one right to the other with only a week in between schools. he said that the delay was sepperating the ET's from the FC's and getting them placed into the classes for what they will be training for. Hopefully your son wont have to wait that long in between.

Welcome Larry Gaither,

My son just started ATT classes 3 weeks ago and hope to be finished by the end of may. Then he expect another 60 day delay before his A school starts

Larry,
welcome to the group. Congratulations on your son's joining the Navy. I have a son that is due to graduate the end of may from A-school. Monday nite my son passed his Radar 1 lab. Trevor is wanting to get stationed in San Diego as a Satellite Communications Tech. Good luck to your son on his wanting to get into ET.
Again congratulations on your son's enlistment and prepare yourself for P.I.R. it is a wonderful experience. There are some very helpfulgroups on this site that you can check out that have a wealth of knowledge from the people that have experienced the P.I.R. that will help you out immensely. I wish that I had found this site before I went to my son's P.I.R.

you did not interrupt Mike. Nice to have you here welcome aboard. looks as though the three of us are in different stages of our sons Naval careers. So if there is anything I can help with don't hesitate to ask. I don't know a whole lot about it but I have a son that is in A school now in G.L. and I believe that intelchips son is just now starting his SCC or ATT. So we know kind of what you are going through.
I think the way that they decide which rating you get in bootcamp is by how you handle the training. I know that Trevor told me they do a fire course in boot camp and that some of the guys in his ship were in AECF also but they went to the FC side where he went to the ET side. I like intelchips am not sure how they decide but their is another group on this site that is "ask a recruiter" and a couple of other members are current and former Sailors so you might search and find them and ask them questions. We are all here to help each other as much as possible so don't be affraid to ask. I ask Trevor all the time what different things that he is doing and what the acronyms that he just hit me with mean.

You're correct about the field being AECF. You see how green I am. I'm sure I'll pick up the acronyms you mentioned. Thanks.

Welcome aboard Mike,

I think you mean AECF and we'll try to answer your questions as they come up. Some time during boot camp someone will mysteriously tell your son which rating he will train for. I have yet to understand how they decide. After they finished boot camp they then currently follow into INDOC -->SCC-->ATT--> A school--> C school-->the fleet for ETs and INDOC -->SCC-->ATT--> A school-->back to ATT for refresher--> C school-->the fleet for FCs. Of course things are always changing.
