So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

Andrew Ross, I bet it was the security clearance that was holding things up for your son. You know how young people are about getting their paperwork in. We will see how quick things get processed. Let us know what happens.

Paul, I'm very happy for you, but now I'm totally confused!

I talked to my son over the weekend and still no word on orders!

On a lighter note, my son's security clearance is finished ... YEAH!  18 months, that's not bad! :o)

Just got back from GL where I attended my son's A school graduation on Friday.  It was a very nice ceremony and great to see all of the FC's and ET's that reached this accomplishment.  We are hoping that Alex gets his orders soon.  There were quite of few in his BEQ that got orders Friday and boy were they grinning ear to ear!

Andrew Ross,

My son's SDC said that Bren's FC (A)school class might be the first Grad n Go class. He was told that he would get his orders right after (A)school. His class was told that things are moving much faster now than in the past. More for FC than ETs. We will see what happens. I should know around April.

Andrew-my son also got his orders cancelled for medical reasons but luckily the medical stuff was cleared up in a week but he had to wait for new orders. It was hard because the first orders were for the school and area he wanted badly! (He's an ET and wanted communications) 10 days later he got new orders for the same class in San Diego. It just doesn't start until April 2. The first orders were for Jan 7. But we are now just 4 weeks until he leaves GL and so it will happen soon for you too!!

Here's the response:

"

Good morning Mr. Ross, your son is in a hold status called awaiting transfer. The FC "C" school backs up for a variety of reasons forcing students into a hold at Great Lakes. That period can be several months. We are working very hard to reduce the number of hold students and the length of time they remain on hold. This is one of my top priorities. We speak with detailers every day to process orders and honestly don't know how a students wait will be. I don't think it will take 8 months though. Security clearances get held up for a lot of reasons, we manage to work through almost all of those. Your son should know what the issue is because we tell them and if there is an issue we need the student help to resolve it. The current federal budget is impacting us as well. It takes longer and we get less notice of orders, just one of the things we live and deal with. We will get him off to his next stop as quickly as we can."

Clear as mud ... LOL!

His security clearance fell through the cracks.  He didn't find out about the issue until he was completing A school.  He has been back and forth to the office to check on it.  Last he heard was it will take another couple of weeks.

Sorry, don't mean to be a Debbie Downer ... just very frustrated!

Andrew Ross, let us know what the outcome is. My son is due to graduate from (A)school the beginning of April. I am praying that he is not stuck there until next October. UUUUGGG

Thanks, Sandy, I'll do just that.

Andrew, visit the Training Support Center (TSC) link on Facebook.

This page was started by the CO of GL. He set up this page to help families with any comments, problems or concerns they might have about their Sailors. Feel free to stop by. Maybe the Skipper could help your son. The Skipper is on TSC all the time answering concerns of parents and family. A Chief at GL reassured me that it was safe to ask questions there. (it wont be taken out on your sailor)
