So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

Vicki - Thanks, Vicki! Wes's roommate got the very same orders!

Mary - yes, he would love to be stationed in Japan! I will tell him what you said. My husband had been there a lot when he was an engineer working for Hitachi. My kids learned early to love sushi, udon, etc. We used to hate to take Wes to eat sushi because it would cost us an arm and a leg!

Threresa, fabulous news for your sailor!!! We know some CIWS FCs and they truly seem to enjoy their work and if I remember right the school is about nine months long in San Diego so that's a good start already! Congrats to him...geez does this mean he will be hanging out in GL for another five months?!!! Yikes!

BR549 --- as long as it is processing without snags your son should be fine. Our son checked into Dahlgren and found his was not completed so he could not go into the schoolhouse if I remember correctly but whatever loose ends that needed to be wrapped up - got wrapped up before the classes began.

GOOD NEWS! Our sailor woke us up this morning to tell us he did receive his orders. His start date isn't until 4/30 - but it is CIWS San Diego! Happy day in this household today! So happy he'll be closer to home!

Very bizarre - he said he knows his security was cleared quite a while back. He says other friends who graduated after he did received the orders he had requested. He is going to go talk to 'them' tomorrow to see if there is some problem. He said he doesn't mind getting yelled at! He said if orders were based on grades, he should have gotten orders a long time ago, too.

my son was told as long as the Security Clearance was processing they could still receive orders do you know if that is true Mary?

Thanks, Mary - I will be sure to ask him about that!

Theresa - has he checked on his security clearance to make sure that has been wrapped up? I know of a couple of that ran into snags while waiting for orders as their clearances were not completed.

Just asked him. Maybe this explains it - who knows!? He put down CIWS, San Diego, Tomahawk, San Diego, and 3rd choice I think he said West coast. It sounded like they were filling VA schools so maybe that is the reason for the wait? He said he talked to his yeoman about going over and inquiring about the status of his orders to see if there might be some kind of a hold he needed to take care of or something. The Yeoman said DO NOT - he would get chewed out! Oh well, more wait and see I guess... I'm thinking the San Diego orders are just not as available as compared to the number of VA orders available. I know how he feels - probably something akin to being chosen last for a softball team/game!!
