So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

Unfortunately, I no longer get regular updates on orders but the civilian who is running the program is awesome AND she loves me to death so I will see what I can find out.

Ha! Well you know what happens when one person tells someone and then that person tells...blah, blah. So thanks for the clarification FC1. It sounds like good improvements on both fronts; instructor led ATT and a longer A school program.

Any updates on orders...we have families believing they will be there until next April, etc. and these are students that have already completed A school and just waiting for orders.

Mary- Your info has some elements of truth to it but seems to have been a bit garbled in the communication process. What has happened is that ATT has been changed to a "lock step" format to match 'A' School. It will be instructor led with CBT as a supporting tool instead of entirely CBT as it is now. Students will also go through all of ATT in one shot. No more Phase II. The 15 week thing is in regards to 'A' school. We are extending the course from 13 weeks to 15 weeks because we simply have no wiggle room to account for holidays, medical issues and such. As it is right now if a student misses more than one day of class, they need to be set back because they fall to far behind the rest of the class and we do not always have an open seat in another room so they go on hold until a seat becomes available in the module they are on. Going to 15 weeks gives us room to let them catch up to their class vice being set back. It also helps us with our lab scheduling which has been problematic in the past. We had one class fall a week behind over 4 months ago and we are just now getting back to where we should be with no one waiting to get into a lab. Hope this clears things up a bit.

I agree 100% and hoping it is more rumor than fact. Hubby used to be an FC Instructor and he has cringed more than a few times when I've shared stories such as this.

Fingers crossed for a flawless holiday for everyone with sailors on stand down!

Yikes...that's major.
We've been hoping we'd get news on the orders front, but now that Chris has bought plane tix, we're hoping we DON'T hear any news on the orders front :)
I've been involved in writing and delivering technical training for years, and while CBT is good for some things, it is NOT a replacement for the bulk of what needs to be conveyed to an up and coming student.
This is a dangerous path, if true, and will ultimately lead to the dumbing down of our techs.
The costs. many of which are intangible, for lack of proper training will FAR outweigh doing it correctly upfront.

Just my $.02

Quiet here.

Does that mean no update on orders? Or is everyone just making plans to enjoy eggnog soon with their students?!

FC1 if you are listening - can you shed some light on situation that I have heard about...FC A school is being cut in half to 15 weeks vs. 30 weeks and 100% computer based. True? Close to truth? Or just another rumor?

Thanks!

Mary,
I agree. Budget woes are, well...they are what they are. If I were to question anything, from my VERY distant viewpoint, it would be the "outsourcing" of orders to the civilian group that FC1 mentioned earlier.
We'll just keep waiting ;) Chris bought tickets, so that's probably a SURE sign he'll get orders now ;)
