So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

Just adding a little stress to the holidays aren't they? I hate to speculate about orders at this stage as I suspect anything could happen now especially if your son is seeing orders with a PCS date before the holidays. The good news is the C schools do holiday stand downs as well but they usually do them in two groups and it's the dates would be different then what they do at A school.

The only suggestion that I might offer about airline tickets is book them based on the stand down dates for GL and work with an airline that has a military desk that you can work thru if he gets new orders so you can change the ticket or at least one that will allow you to cancel the ticket without a large fee and apply it to a new ticket.

Jim, I'm sure there are alot of smart folks running the Navy but their hands are tied by the budget - which is still not approved for the new fiscal year.

Theresa,
Welcome! :) Our son Chris graduated around the same time, and told us he was filling out his dream sheet last week too.
We'll just have to wait and see.
sometimes when we talk to Chris, I think I'm more anxious/excited about him getting orders than HE is...lol

I wish I could get the final ok from my son to make travel arrangements - but he won't let me! He graduated mid-October. However, he told me yesterday that someone who had graduated two weeks before him just received orders - and they were to get transferred before the stand down - ? Does this sound right? I have a feeling my son will be holding out to the bitter end for orders & a transfer before the holidays - and perhaps not make it out of GL for stand down! If timing make a difference, my son had filled out his dream sheet on Monday.
Nice to be on this site - I will be a Navy dad (versus Mom), too, if it means even more info regarding the Navy & in support of my sailor:)

So it sounds like our sailors were told to go ahead and make travel arrangements for the holiday shutdown, which also seems to mean that we don't need to think about any orders until after the first of the year.
I guess we just have to remember that there's smarter folks than us running the Navy ;)

My son finishes up the last part of ATT Tuesday, he's very excited to be finishing A school not so thrilled for spending the winter in Great Lakes, IL hopefully it won't be too terribly cold this year. We're from the South so anything colder than 40 is cold for him. Keeping my fingers crossed for orders for everyone.

Talked to Chris last night. He said they got the go-ahead to make holiday travel plans while tickets are cheap. Momma liked THAT news ;) Going to be great to spend some time with our sailor over the holidays. He also said they were going to be filling out their dream sheets soon.

We are originally from Detroit but it's been years since we lived in frigid weather. Hubby found his old snowscraper the other day and declared...we are ready!

Mary,
If you're headed for Upstate from way down south, it's time you started getting a little acclimated!

Chris said he's been trying to get into that class, but hasn't been able to yet. Not sure if that's a scheduling problem on his end?...lol
But he's aware, and definitely wants to take it before he goes anywhere else.

I was sniveling because I couldn't wear my shorts yesterday! It has turned cold here in the south very quickly. I think it is a practice run for our Thanksgiving plans to upstate NY!

Good news on the Petty Officer Indoc, I usually recommend that they keep a copy of their certificate of completion. I know of a few sailors that got to their C school and there was a problem finding it but the C school accepted a fax copy of it.
