So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

Mary,
No...no coin. We were hoping ;) I really think it was more of a work party...lol But he did get to meet Adm Mullen, and was pretty proud of that :)

Still no word on orders for C school...we're keeping our fingers crossed.

Heard great things about the McCain, we have a local family that had a son that was stationed on it. Good destroyer ;-)

He will be on the USS John McCain. We are now looking into airfare to Japan next year to visit him. It is a long way from home but he is happy and got what he worked so hard for. We are very happy.

Congratulations to James! Japan is an awesome place for a sailor to begin their career. We lived there for five years ourselves and will never regret our Navy years there. Our son was born in Yokosuka and his ship just spent four days there so he was able to experience it with one of our old neighbors who is an FC Chief that retired and stayed in Japan.

What ship is he heading to Larry? Glad that he will get a month at home with you as you know the real downfall of these orders are the distance from home. Get your computers set up with Skype and at least while he is in port - you can see him :-)

Jim - what a great experience for Chris. Did he get one of his coins by any chance?

Our son has returned from his first deployment and was hoping to head home this week but by the time they approved the chits, airfare went up another $400 and flights from Hawaii are not cheaper to begin with. He would have spent two days on the plane and decided it would be an expensive five days at home so he is waiting for the holiday stand down in December to take leave. We will be happy to have him home this year ;-)

Hello All

James just called and He got his fleet orders. He is Honor Grad and was able to pick what he wanted. He is beside himself because he the ones he was dreaming of. Out of the orders they had there were only two for Japan so he jumped on it even though his mother tried to get him to choose San Diego. We are still very happy for him. After graduation he starts another school for three weeks then he will be here for 30 leave before he joins the fleet. At least he will be home for Christmas.

Got a text msg from Chris last night, he had just met Joint Chief of Staff, Adm Mike Mullen at the Gala that he was chosen to go to from winning inspection.
He seemed prettyt psyched. Can't wait to talk to him about it.

I thought the same and have been trying to find out what I can to help him out (mentally). He has been going to the detailer, regularly, and gets the same story each time he's there. I've been watching this group closely, hoping that someone will post something positive, but no cigar! Looks like the next time I'll get to see him will be Christmas stand down ... which was the last time I saw him (last year). I wouldn't mind so much if he was doing something productive.

That's why I figured that Oct 1st, things would start rolling...sounds like maybe not so much.

Fiscal year starts in October...towards the end of the fiscal year, funds are like....gone- so many things are put on hold. Seems as soon as October rolls around things start moving again.....just my take on the delays seen everywhere
