So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

What an excellent opportunity for him to experience a port of call in a VERY unique way.
Good on him.

I know Chris would love to go to Japan...but at this point that's a ways out yet.

Our son is in Yokosuka, Japan for a port call and he is getting the best tour guide ever. Our old neighbor in Japan, retired as an FC Chief and stayed in Japan so he picked up Nick and a friend yesterday for an outing --- he sent us this message on facebook today...

Nick, Tom, Satoko and I had a wonderful time tonight. Nick saw where he was conceived (we think) and then we went out eating and drinking. Wonderful guys, both! Sad to see them leave. They should be off to see the Great Fat Guy in Kamakura tomorrow. I have to work. Photos later if you're nice.

FC1 --- good news on both fronts!

Jim ---- Congrats to Chris on being selected to hang out with the VIPs at the Pier! It will be a memorable day for him.

Just a quick orders update. As you have already heard, our Commanding Officer got involved with the order selection process and put a stop to the "you get what we give you" crap. I am glad to see that. Congress released $100M for PCS orders. Though that is for all orders, 'C' school orders have already started moving. The only schoolhouses that are full at the moment are the Aegis schools in Dahlgren. All the rest should continue to see orders for a little while anyway. Hope that helps.

I asked Chris what his weekend plans were and he replied "I'm a rated, Fire Controllman for the United States Navy, and I'm going to out and have a beer!" LOL
Ahhh the good ol' days :)

After checking out the per plate price for dinner at the Gala, I don't think we'll be attending! :)
Hope someone takes good pics and posts them online.

Heard from Chris again today.
His ship had an inspection, and he was chosen to represent his ship at the Star Spangled Salute on Oct 16th. in Chicago at Navy Pier.
Apparently there will be some Senators and other VIPs in attendance, so this is quite an ordeal. We are VERY proud that he got selected to represent his ship. What an honor for him!!!

He, and of course WE, are very proud...did that come through? LOL

If he's graduated from A school - they probably will let him take that leave but they do try to make them keep some leave on the books for emergencies.

It will be a happy Christmas for your sailor heading off to his new school in a great location. Nice way to start a new year!

C school will be six months for him, but he doesn't start until late January. Would be great to have him shipping out of SD. He's looking into leave tomorrow. Plans are to come home soon for a couple weeks and again at Christmas.

He'll enjoy SanDiego - how long is his school Roger and how soon does he get to leave GL?!! I would suggest since he is going to C school in SD, he might get orders to a ship out of SD as well, saves the Navy lots of travel $$

I'm 100% about performance --- so hoping the picking remains in place.

Jim, ships split their stand down over two periods as the ship must always be the priority but our son will still be getting a 13 day leave for the holidays. They just start earlier in Dec and the second stand down period comes back later in January. We are still waiting for firm dates.

BUT... GL does a full stand down that generally will start the Friday before Christmas and finish the Sunday after NYs. Don't buy your tickets yet - but it will be in that general time frame.

And yes...depending on their start date for C school, most sailors will take leave before C school begins. In our son's case, he was home for CHristmas leave and the day he reported back to GL - they handed him his travel documents and he was on a plane within 12 hours since he just took two weeks - he did not take more leave before C school however when C school wrapped up - he came home and took 28 days leave before reporting to the ship. Chris will find ways to use that leave :-)
