So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

My son picked the MK92 Fire Control System in San Diego. He'll have to train for a new system when he re-enlists since they are phasing out the frigate and MK92. There were 42 orders and two groups ahead of his group, so he go a low pick. His preferred items went pretty quick. Interesting process. On a side note, he told me that due to the officers complaining, it appears that they will not change the picking process, so sailors will still be picking based on grades in A school. He's happy with the weapons systems (didn't want AEGIS) and we're happy with San Diego. All is well.

you mean take leave before reporting to C school? :)

We'll just have to wait and see. I thought I read/heard that most bases do a 2wk holiday thing, but sailors were only allowed one week, so you either got home for Xmas or home for New Years, but not both...but who knows.

Roger, it will be interesting to see what your son gets. Hope he is excited about his next step.

BR549 -- had not heard that yet. Might be good that your son won't finish for another month - more $ and orders will open up, it's just a matter of when.

Jim, Chris will burn two weeks at the holidays and then they usually like to take orders before C school and before reporting to the ship -------- when it works with the "Report no later than" date.

I'll report back tonight (California time) if I get any information.

Roger,
Congrats!, and let us know what he had to choose from if possible. It would be nice to know what's coming through now that things are loosening up somewhat.

My son called today and I asked him about the going to the fleet before C school and he said they told his class that's not going to happen and quite a few Dahlgren orders got pulled back because Dahlgren is full and he has a friend who was supposed to go to Dahlgren but now he got Tomahawk and will NOT be going to Dahlgren it's hard to say what's going on right now. It's the end of the year for them so there are some things taking place. My son won't finish A until Oct 24th so I'm sure he'll be in GL for quite awhile.

Wow. Wonder how big this lot of orders is.

My son is picking his C school orders as we speak. So, there does appear to be movement. He's been waiting at GL for about a month.

He hasn't had a chance to take leave yet, so he's up to 30 days at the end of Oct. Think it's burning a hole in his pocket, so to speak :)

Yep, they just extended this policy earlier in Sept.
