So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

And that incentive carries on to C school as well, the top students get first pick of orders that are but the classes are much smaller. In our son's case - the choices were one set of orders to Hawaii and four sets of orders for Norfolk. He was Honor Grad for the class so...he is enjoying Hawaii!

Tim - Nat is in Phase I of ATT. They have different hours than we do here in 'A' school which is why he is on the night shift. Once he finishes ATT, he will be on a 0630-1530 schedule. The 'C' school he gets depends largely on 2 factors. The first is what orders we get when it comes time for him to pick. The second is his academic performance. The better he does in school, the higher up the pecking order he will be when it comes time to pick. The top guys get first pick out of the orders we have available at the time. the bottom guys get stuck with whatever is left over. It's a great incentive to do well in school.

Thanks for the info, FC. Really looking forward to that. I think he's going to hold out for the holidays before taking any leave, so probably won't see him this fall. Momma's ok with that, as long as we get some time over the holidays.

Jim - christmas stand down is different everywhere you go but generally they are 14-20 days long split into 2 groups, Christmas and New Years. Usually a sailor gets the chioce of one or the other. In some instances, like here in Great Lakes, we have the option to take both leave periods. That is not to common in the fleet though. Have to have enough people to cover the duty sections. I am not sure exactly how it will be managed in VA but your sailors should have plenty of heads up.

It's great to hear that. He mentioned that they had a new SDC and that a lot of guys had been failing personal inspections lately. He seemed to think they were pretty much screwups, like they were just being dumb. He also said they were doing PT 3 times a week, which he loves.

Hi Jim,
Our son had holiday leave while at GL and then reported to Dahlgren on Jan 5th so we never experienced stand down in VA. I do not know if C school holiday stand down is the same dates as A school or not so hoping FC1 can give you some solid info.

Congrats to your son on his triple - so nice to hear his pride and excitement.

FC1, Mary?...anyone know the typical holiday schedule for Xmas at the C Schools down in Va? Xmas this year is a Saturday, so New Years, too. We're planning some family time over the holidays and are trying to figure out what the typical liberty scenario is around the holidays.
Chris thinks he may have his first Drill Team performance on 9/11, but wasn't sure. He said he "landed a triple" the other day, meaning a triple spin of the drill rifle, for us non-initiates :) and he was pretty excited. He mentioned that when you miss, "...it really HURTS". Sounded like the voice of experience to me :)
