So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

Jim,
I don't know all of the specifics but I do know other families have been able to call the NEx photo lab and ordered + paid for those boot camp photos.

I agree get the photos, the dvds, the yearbook while at boot camp. New sailors don't always appreciate them at the time but later in life...they become treasures.

Just spoke with Chris again. While he's been on hold, he's been practicing for Drill Team twice a day. Says that'll drop to once a day once he starts A School on Thursday, but he feels like he's still got a good lead on some of the other sailors that are trying to join. I hope that works out for him.
His Mom keeps asking for her pictures from Boot, which I guess he has to sign off base to go get, which means he needs another sailor to go with him over to the NEX at RTC...said it was actually a pain, so it won't be anytime soon.

Moral to that story, for you folks with sons/daughters going through boot, have them get their pics WHEN THEY PIR :)

I also know that Chris is really enjoying the training he's receiving, but I also know that he's really looking forward to the day when he joins the fleet, and more importantly, when he actually goes to sea.

Understood. But taking C School in Va is a lot closer than C School in Ca. We take these things one at a time ;)
Right now we're hoping he gets to come home on leave during the holidays. I think he'll probably finish up sometime around the end of October, so who knows.

That is only where the 'C' School will be. Location of 'C' school is no guarantee of final duty station since CIWS and Tomahawk are the only schools taught on both coasts. I started out and an FCS/ORTS tech and spent that majority of my career in San Diego.

There will be some happy sailors in GL soon!

Thanks for the info FC1. Is that the usual spread? If so, it looks like the majority of FCs go to Virginia? Mom, of course, finds that idea appealing, since we live in Mass.

FCS/Orts-Dahlgren, VA
CIWS-San Diego, CA
CIWS-Dam Neck, VA
SPS-48E-Dam Neck, VA

FC1 Sean, Sorry we didn't get to meet last week. I looked and asked for you as I really wanted to shake your hand and thank you for all the time you put in. My daughter starts A school as an ET 1 June, and is really looking forward to this next phase of schooling.

Thank you again for your service, and I hope she ends up in some of your classes.

Mac - If your daughter is an AECF student she will probably be on hold a week or so to attend base indoc and get all her checkin paperwork done. The wait to get into ATT is only 1-3 days at the moment. Form there is depends on what rate shee gets, ET or FC. FC holds between ATT and 'A' school is about 3 weeks. It is about 2 months for ETs though we are working that number down now that we have 2 full shifts teaching ET students. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I pop in from time to time and try and clear up any misconceptions. Welcome aboard!
