So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

I asked for a class up update. I posted it as a discussion so everyone can readily get to it. Hope it helps those with some questions or concerns.

Mac,
Don't know if you've joined the bootcamp group, but there's usually some good info over there, too.
Hardest thing for most is the initial 3-4wks with NO contact. That part was a bit tough, but tougher on them than on us.
Good luck to your daughter, I'm sure she'll make you proud.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'll keep you all updated on her progress.

Talked more with Chris yesterday. His tryouts for Drill Team are on June 7th. Can't wait to hear how that goes...

Mac,
I would say the Navy definitely knows what it's doing, and part of that includes knowing they need the curbs painted and they always have someone on watch. Chris has been in since last November. He stood watch throughout bootcamp, including "ironing watch", stood watch during hold between boot and ATT, etc.
Basically, they'll always stand watches. It's a basic part of the Navy.
Chris PIR'd Jan 29th, and then had a 4-5 week hold before starting ATT, which is the first phase of AECF. He's now on hold between ATT and A School, but should class-up next week.

Thanks Jim. That's kinda what I thought. I'm sure she'll get a better handle on things as she listens and dates start approaching. As far as I'm concerned, I believe the Navy knows what they're doing. And if they have her scheduled for AECF, they don't want her sitting around painting curbs or standing watch. Thanks again!

I just hope I'm not sending her the wrong information since I'm sure things have changed since I was in the Navy. When I was in the Navy, there was not a big emphasis on DEP and my Corpsman A school started the next week following graduation. One week I was on one side of the base in boot; the next week I was on the other side starting my A school.

My daughter is scheduled to start boot camp in a few weeks. She was only on DEP for a short time. The question I have is will she start her school immediately after boot since she waited? Or will she still wait. I'm just under the assumption that the schedule boot camp graduation based on the openings in the A school. Thanks for any comments in advance.

Yes Jim,
Making examples of this situation would send a very loud and clear message to the other students.

When our son was at A school, they had some opportunities to attend a Captain's Mast - it was a great chance for the other students to learn what NOT to do. I hope they still offer that and your sailors take advantage of it.

Mary,
Military service exmplifies the value of "trust", much more so than private industry. Regardless of the branch of service, a sailor/soldier/airman has to be able to trust his shipmates that they will do their job, as everyone's life may depend on it, period. If you cheat on a test, it's pretty clear that I can't rely on you to do your job. If they cheat instead of doing some studying, as easy as that might be, what's going to happen when the excrement hits the airconditioner and it REALLY counts?

I agree with you...it's such a shame, and so uneccessary. It's somewhat of a shame that we don't have these types of checks and balances in private industry. I hope that all the other students are made aware of these incidents, and what the ramifications and results are.

That's great...thanks for the update, FC1. Really appreciate it. Can't wait to see how he does with his next challenge. Last few phone calls have sounded like he's really settling in to Navy life, and is really enjoying himself.
