So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

Thanks, FC1!

Andrew - with the way orders are going right now and with the flood in Millington (where the orders come from) I doubt there will be any issue with your son's security clearance. At worst his order selection will be pushed back until his clearance in completed.

I was just looking at the A School schedule that FC1 posted above. For some reason, I thought A School was more like 20 wks, not 13? So Chris would have 13+3wks of ATT, or about 4mos of school left, once he starts A School.
I guess that takes him out to roughly Sept. Maybe he'll take some leave after that and come home for a while. Even if he shoots home for a weekend, that'd be great.

Well we had 2 weeks with James. It was great. He left yesterday for Dahlgren. We talked with him today and he is very excited. Settled in with a new roommate he knew from GL. He has a good room and was able to explore the base today. Life is different here than at GL he said. He starts C School tomorrow and can't wait. Onward to the next great Navy adventure!!!!!

Glad everyone's relieved. The Navy has actually done this a few times ;)...of course, they've also made 1 or 2 mistakes, so never hurts to follow up.

I just spoke with my son and it looks like he got the ball rolling. He was assured that everything would be timely enough for him to make C school ... he's relieved ... me too! :o)

I asked James and your son needs to go to his A School Instructor and tell him that he does not have security clearance yet and needs to get an appt. setup so he can get one. He can finish A school but he will not leave GL until he gets it.

About says this: "The average cost to process a SECRET clearance can run from several hundred dollars to $3,000, depending upon individual factors. The average cost to process a TOP SECRET clearance is between $3,000 and about $15,000, depending upon individual factors."

Ain't technology grand? :)

What with technology these days, it's likely to be the same or maybe less...hard to say. For TS they used to do face-to-face interviews with a variety of friends/family, and that's expensive. I'm sure there are stats out there somewhere. I'll hit the googles in a bit ;)
