So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

I love Kayak.com. I have been using that site for several years now.

Also, one of the best travel sites I've found for everything from hotels to car rentals to airfare is kayak.com

Give 'em a spin...been using them for about a year, and haven't found a better search engine yet for travel.

Hello all, I was stationed in San Diego for many years before coming here. I would not reccomend staying in Coronado. There are only 2 ways onto the island and traffic on the Coronado bay bridge is horrible during the morning and afternoon commute times and coronado is probably the most expensive area you could stay in. Hotel Circle in Mission valley Has plenty to choose from and the prices aren't quite as bad. There are also several hotels downtown around the convention center and they are within walking dinstance of just about anything you could want to check out. To get the best prices on hotels, you would need to go out into the suburbs. Areas to avoid are National city, Imperial beach, the west side of Chula Vista and the downtown El Cajon area. Hope this helps.

Theresa check the San Diego Navy Lodge, I looked yesterday and they have openings in August.  But Coronado is booked for like a year in advance.  It's right on the beach and very popular. I'm so glad Wes is happy, Noel has talked to him and he's really getting excited.

I just tried to get into the Navy Lodge too - and they are booked in June.  Seems like hotel rates are usually double in San Diego! I was on the internet most of the day yesterday trying to figure out where to stay as we would like to get to SD very soon, too.  Our son just posted on facebook that he loves San Diego!  He is most surprised by the more freedom he has, ow laid back it is, and where he lives.  He says the galley food is horrible, though, but there are a lot of other options.  He says it looks like he will get to his ship pretty quickly after C school.  His instructors also said that if they put Japan on their dream sheets, they will be going to Japan.   Getting closer to the fleet.

Why can't you get in the Navy lodge are they booked or some other reason?

Vicki - just talked to Wes!  He's on base and checked into his housing facility which isn't far from his classes.  He says he's on an upper floor and can see the ocean.  I feel much better knowing he sounds happy (though he says there was a lot of red tape once he got into base checking in and going here and there.  He's waiting to see who his roommate will be...  I'm counting down for Noel, too!!!
