So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

Well I just finished my rewrite of the end of course comprehensive test and got it approved by the Director. Muahahahaha! In reality it will reduce the amount of time they spend on the test, which is about 3 hours, and it covers a wider knowledge base. I am hoping this will give us a better insight as to how well we are teaching here and where we can make improvements.

Oh...and over on the airforce base, where a friend of mine was the tech for the F4 flight sim, that WAS loaded by a huge number of punch cards...and yeah, it was a blast to fly ;)

LOL...punch cards were actually just coming on the scene. There were actually a few circuits that even had TRANSISTORS. My system's computer spanned an entire three vans and the first troubleshooting step the operators did was to open all the doors and turn out the lights so that....you guessed it, they could spot burnt out filaments in tubes.
But given all that, we still have plenty of film footage showing a nose cone hitting a 55gal drum at 200 miles. And that was pretty good for back then :)

Computers? in the 70's? Weren't those the ones you had to insert a punch card to input data and it only held 16 bytes at a time? =)

He says he's doing really well. He said that the GPA doesn't count during ATT, but he said he'd be in the 90s if it did, so nothing wrong with that.
I hope he gets as much of a kick out of learning how various things work as I did when I went through 1 yr of radar/computer school for the army back in the 70s. That's when you know you're hooked. :)

It's no fun when they are on a later shift and have morning "duties" but it comes with the turf. Good that he likes school --- he has awhile to go yet.

Spoke with Chris yesterday...he's still enjoying ATT, says he's doing well with it, and likes it. Can't wait for him to move on to A School and see how that goes. He was grumbling a bit about getting up early for an alcohol class...lol I think he likes to sleep in, being on second shift.

Good information and I would agree if someone fails to disclose something on the front end it might make one question what else they are hiding.

I believe when our son reported to his C school, his clearance was not 100% completed so he could not go into the school house initially but he reported a couple of weeks early and when it was time for classes - he was good to go.

Mary,
The Security Clearance process starts when the student arrives from bootcamp. The type of clearance determines how in depth the investigation will go. The length of the investigation also varies depending on what kind of information comes up. The best thing for your students to do is to disclose EVERYTHING from the start. Traffic tickets, any legal trouble thay may have gotten into, financial trouble and what they are doing to correct the issue if there is a debt involved, ect... The STG you are referring to probable neglected to share his debt information during the initial paperwork. The biggest question is, how trustworthy is the person being investigated? If someone leaves out negative information, the investigators see that as hiding something and leaves doubt as to whether the person can be trusted with sensitive information. The students here go through the process for a SECRET clearance to begin with. Once someone receives Tomahawk orders, the investigation is expanded to TOP SECRET. Both are quite long and require extensive background checks. I started my initial Clearance investigation when I arrived here for 'A' school in June of 1993 and it wasn't completed until I arrived aboard my first ship in December of 1994. Just to give you an idea of how long it can take.

Ha! Was just sharing with my hubby and former FC how the FCs are currently selected at bootcamp. He said we cannot share that info with any ETs as the FCs ARE the elite ones of the fleet!!! Old FCs...they just never give it up! lol

It USED to be when you enlisted into the AECF rate, you enlisted as an ET or FC at MEPS. You also started and finished A school with the same students. No self paced mods. Many of the A school students went on to the same C school together.

When we went up to the schoolhouse to see our son for A school graduation, there were ETs, FCs, ICs and GMs in the graduation group that day. So I asked our son which FCs did he know...many of them he did not know as they were in different classes but graduated together.
