So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

Got some more info on the ET/FC Selection process. There are no special special requirements to be either rate. If there is a list of 80 AECF members and we need 45 FCs and 35 ETs, thet start at the top of the list and count down to 45, they are FC's the rest are ET's. It is as simple as that. I thought it would be more involved but it's really not. =)

The requirement for the sailor to be single applies to this specific set of orders. I have had several of my friends go to Japan with their families over the years.

FC1 Officer, such great info - we appreciate you taking time to set things straight. I had not heard the % of FC vs. ET but often get asked what determines this in boot camp? Short of it being a flip of a coin...we had no clue.

Would it be correct that if a sailor is married that would not get orders to Japan? I had the good fortune of living in Japan with my FC hubby but he went over as a single sailor and when he reenlisted and was given another C school we married. It was challenging but they did give him orders for his "aquired" dependent.

Will share the driving policy with the new wife - I thought that might be the case.

FC1,
Thanks for the info. Always good to get answers straight from a reliable source, as opposed to the "outhouse" lawyers in there that always think they have the answers ;)

Hello All. It's been a while since I have had the opportunity to check in here. We are preparing for a Training Program Inspection that is a rather big deal. So much fun. We are also restructuring the curriculum into a block format where an instructor will only teach a specific block of the course content. That will allow the instructors to focus in specific areas and provide better instruction to the students.

As for the questions...

1.) I am not sure entirely how their rate is determined. I do know that 48% become ETs and 52% become FCs. I am looking into the method used to determine who goes where.

2.) 'C' School orders are picked based on the Student's average while in 'A' school. ATT scores do not factor in. The person with the highest average will pick first. There are some exceptions. We have certain systems that are only available on FFGs which are all male crews. Tomahawk 'C' Schools requires a completed Top Secret clearance. Things like this will disqualify individuals for certain orders but we usually figure out who can pick what before hand. We also get "short fill" orders from time to time that have to be filled in a specific amount of time and have special requirements. We got such a batch today. They were for The Rolling Air Frame missile system and the class starts in April and have follow on orders to a ship in Japan They require the sailor to be graduated already and single.

3.) Orders have been a bit erratic as of late. We usually get at least one batch of orders per month however we have only seen 2 batches so far this year. That has to do with reduced budget and class availability in the 'C' schools.

4.) As Far As The Student Driving Policy, according to the base instruction. Students attending FC or ET 'A' Schools who are married and living in housing are the only students allowed to have their cars on base. School house policy restricts their vehicle use during school hours to include lunch. I would not reccomend the young lady bring the car up here unless she intends on moving here to be with her husband.

I hope this helps to clear things up. I am more than happy to help. =)

Mary,
I think that's a pretty big mistake. When our sailor moved over, it was 2wks before he could have a cellphone and laptop. Another 2wks before he got Phase II Liberty. I don't think his A School is allowed cars yet.

Can someone tell me if you are a new sailor moving over from bootcamp, at what point can you have your car at A school? I'm thinking it is once they phase up but I don't remember the procedure and I know a new wife that is planning on driving her car to PIR and leaving it with the sailor and then she will fly home.
