So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

FC1 - we appreciate the information that you have shared above and the new style of teaching appears to be working much better. I do have a couple of questions when your time allows -
1) In boot camp when a recruit is assigned the ET or FC rate - do you know what determines this?
2) When it is time for C school orders for the FCs, what determines their C school. We've always understood it had to do with class placement ie. the better they do in school -- first pick, etc. but is there more to it?
3) At the time that our son graduated from A school, it seemed to be common that orders were picked about two weeks before graduation and now it seems that orders are being done weeks after graduation. If this is the case, can you speak to how long the wait is before orders become available to the students?
Thanks!

Still no word on how his first week went. He was talking about taking the train to Chicago with a few other guys...hope that went well.
It will be interesting to see how he settles in to being a student in that environment.

Chris called and spoke with his Mom last night...said he hadn't called or emailed because he was really beat.
Just what a Dad likes to hear :)

FC1,
Thanks for the update. As is often said, that sounds like such common sense, which we all know, ain't so common these days :)
Haven't heard a peep from Chris since he started...but I'd hope that he's swamped right now...
Is there any kind of rough outline that describes the curriculum?

Good morning all,
Just wanted to give you an update on the SCC discussion. SCC has been discontinued and the information that was taught there has been incorperated into ATT and FC 'A'. Previously, SCC was 2 weeks of class that was completed prior to ATT. We are starting to see the last of the students that went through SCC coming through the schoolhouse now. This was another of the measures we took to try and decrease the hold time between the different schools. The next item on the board is combining ATT and FC 'A' into one course. I actually find that pretty funny because that is how it was when I came through FC 'A' so many years ago. =)

James corrected me. He had CPR and First Aid in SCC but he said now that is the first thing in ATT.

FC1 Chain

Thank you for the info. We are very proud of him and I might say he is very proud the Navy choose FC for him. He thought at first he wanted ET but into his schooling he decided this is the best route for him. He is one happy sailor right now. And very dedicated to the Navy. We are very, very proud of Him.
Thank you

Mr. Gaither,
Your son will be graduating this fraday 12 MAR 10, but has elected to not attend our graduation ceremony. He is on the TSC drill team and is going to have a performance that day. I gave him the option to do which activity he wanted to do and chose to do the drill team performance. His final GPA is 88.17% with only 1 test failure. That is an outstanding grade considering how challenging our cirriculum is. You should be very proud!

In short, Fire Controlmen maintain and operate the complex weapons systems aboard surface warships. We must have a vast knowledge of basic electronics, motors, servos, synchros, radar and electronic cooling systems. We are the people that shoot the naval guns and fire missiles in offense and in defense of our ships.

Sorry Jim I thought I remembered CPR and First Aid being in SCC that is before ATT. James was in the 16:00 to 24:00 for Phase II ATT and after he got used to it he said it was OK but he is a morning person.
