So, I haven't heard from FC1 Officer in some time. I deleted all the info here because it is probably wildly out of date. When I can get more current information I will post it here again. I'll see if my son can get me some new information.

Larry, currently in the ATT portion there are no "classified" parts to keep secret. ATT is a higher learning electronics start for them. The "A" school will be the FC school. However, during the schooling they can choose (or may be chosen) to branch off to the "aegis" class. There are many avenues their schooling can take. It will be determined by the kid's desires and the "needs of the Navy" at the time. Encourage him to ask around to the petty officers that have done it for awhile. Let him build his desire from what they have done or recommend. When I was in, that was the only way I found out about all the really good assignments and Temporary duty assignments. Knowledge is truly power in there.

Oh, and Welcome to the group and Navy Dads.

They have ATT and some other classes to go to. Standing watch among other things. My son hasn't really elaborated that much. There is some things he says he can't tell me. Being ex Air Force, I understand that part.

Sorry. Answered my own question by reading. What do they have the sailors do if the have months of waiting time before A school starts?

This is the rate my son signed up for as well. He is leaving for boot in 2 days so I wanted to join this group and read up on this A school. I do have a questions though. Do they go on to another school after A? If so where are those schools located and how long are they?

Dan, he told me he is looking into all of the courses you mentioned, so he can fill time. He is supposed to start his ATT in 2-3 weeks, which will keep him out of trouble for a while. He's just a bit worried about the wait after that. Thanks for the information, I appreciate it!

Andrew, you are correct. Do not encourage him to go UN designated. At least he will still have his paycheck and basic necessities there taken care of. They give a much longer time frame than it actually is. He will start before then, for sure! Class billets open all the time. for instance my other son is waiting sinus surgery before reporting to AirCrew school. His class up date was over a month ago and another kid had to fill it. My oldest who is the FC in the ATT portion I can not remember how long he has left (leaky memory syndrome) But he is enjoying the classes so far. Try to encourage them to start thier BMR (basic Military Requirment) for advancement as well as looking into weather they can get time on a firing range to get there Rifle and pistol ribbons/medals. If not, take some online classes through the Navy college.

Dan - My son is doing the same, just sit and hold tight. FC is what he really wanted. He doesn't mind the wait too much. Being where he is is probably the best place for him anyways.

Well, I spoke to my son this evening and it's worse than we thought ... 15 MONTHS!!! My son is in good spirits and is prepared to wait, with the hope that they'll whittle down that time some. His alternative is to enter the fleet undesignated, which I don't think is a good idea. He's going to give it a couple of months to see what happens, but, depending on the outcome, he might take the alternative and try to strike for Navy Diver ... we'll see what happens.
