We Render Honors to the USS Arizona

081207-N-0535P-215 PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (Dec. 7, 2008) Woody Derby, a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor, salutes the names of the deceased at the USS Arizona Memorial during a Prayer for Peace ceremony sponsored by the Japan Religious Committee for World Federation. The prayer ceremony followed a joint U.S. Navy/National Park Service ceremony commemorating the 67th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The theme of this year's historic commemoration, "Pacific War Memories: The Heroic Response to Pearl Harbor," emphasizes the brave efforts of those who fought at sea, on land, and in the air, to turn the tide in the Pacific. More than 2,000 distinguished guests and the general public joined service members, Pearl Harbor survivors and their families and friends for the annual observance. Welcome to the group Robert...you'll have a great experience at PIR...but take a coat!!! The more you get into the Navy journey with your son, the more you'll doscover that people go out of their way to help our sailors and make them feel comfortable.......I thought I had a novel idea early this year when I sent tons of Girl scout cookies to Eric's carrier and to Kat's carrier in care packages....ends up they literally had pallets of cookies that people had sent.....just a little example of the good will that our troops experience from the folks "back home"..............

My son graduates on Friday 12.4.09, and I am both excited for, and proud of my son for his accomplishment in completeing his Battle Stations excersise. I was not aware of the local adopt a sailor program there in Chicago, and I wish I could thank the family that opened up thier home to my son and five other sailors for the Thanksgiving holiday and served them a home cooked meal. It's nice knowing that someone else cares about our sailors when they have to be away from us.

you've joined the right site for info! Check out the PIR group as there is a ton of info there about PIR and to expect. Also be sure to check out this Must Read in the bootcamp group....it'll give you some idea about what your sailor will learn and why. As always...when you have wuestions or concerns be sure to post them...I'm sure someone here has an answer or can point you in the direction for one.

Hi kevin, Yes everybody rushed down so they can find there sailor our son was aroc so he was in front .When you go into the building there will be signs with your son or daughter division # on it, sit to the left side as the units from the division will Titan up as we sat in front of the division sign the division ended up over to the left from center of course we were on the north side of the building which is the right side. If you end up on the left side southend i would sit more to the right of the division sign good luck and thx

Hi everybody, Garyhere got home onmonday nite what a trip, pir is one of the best feelings I had in a long time ,words cant describe the feelings of how proud I`am to be an American seeing all the young woman and men in uniform standing in there division prouder then ever [HooYah] when they open the big doors and they marched in WOW.It was a great weekend spending time with our son the only thing he had some trouble making a decision. After being drilled for eight weeks. all the the young men and woman had great outlooks and attitude ready for there orders. today wednesday our son called three in the morning he was at the airport with boat load of sailors headed to Pensacola FL . A school [ HooYah]
