We Render Honors to the USS Arizona

081207-N-0535P-215 PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (Dec. 7, 2008) Woody Derby, a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor, salutes the names of the deceased at the USS Arizona Memorial during a Prayer for Peace ceremony sponsored by the Japan Religious Committee for World Federation. The prayer ceremony followed a joint U.S. Navy/National Park Service ceremony commemorating the 67th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The theme of this year's historic commemoration, "Pacific War Memories: The Heroic Response to Pearl Harbor," emphasizes the brave efforts of those who fought at sea, on land, and in the air, to turn the tide in the Pacific. More than 2,000 distinguished guests and the general public joined service members, Pearl Harbor survivors and their families and friends for the annual observance. Aaron is now down in Goose Creek SC for Nuclear Machinist's Mate "A" School, so most of my time on Navy Dads is spent in the Nukes group. Just wanted to say hello and thanks for all the support from the AZ group.

We are proud of all of our AZ Sailors!

Tom, I figured that either today or tomorrow you and Peggy will be headed to Great Lakes to see Kelly's PIR. Have a great time and tell Kelly that we are proud of her accomplishments.

Corky,
I was just in San Diego over Mother's Day weekend and took several pictures of the Reagan and Nimitz while I was there. Good luck to Katie!

corky--- after having my son and daughter both deploy to the mid-est for seven-plus months I know how you feel.

Remember e-mails and check out the Care Packages group...I sent a ton of stuff to Eric and Kat as do a number of other folks...you'd be surpsrised how the little things from home make all the difference.....

my daughter katie shipped out on the uss nimitz for one month of trails, before she goes on an 8 month tour.
mom cried as she watched the ship pull out via webcam.

HooYah Tom! You're going to be so impressed with PIR! Very emotional event....we'll be anxious to read about your reactions to the ceremony! And be sure to stay active on the site as you'll have many questions through A-school and Kelly entering the fleet.

Hi everyone,

We are making final preparations to attend Kelly's PIR on Friday, May 15th. The last letter from Kelly stated she was doing well, past all her physical tests, and she was preparing for gun qualifications. That was two weeks ago, so we are sure she is busy getting ready for her final qualifactions and testing out.

I will keep you posted on her graduation when we return the following week. Thanks for all the support. Tom, Peggy, and Kelly.

Corky, Welcome to our Arizona group! I'm sure Katie has many exciting Navy adventures lying ahead of her. My son Billy, will report to the destroyer USS Howard after he finishes his C-Schools.
