We Render Honors to the USS Arizona

081207-N-0535P-215 PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (Dec. 7, 2008) Woody Derby, a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor, salutes the names of the deceased at the USS Arizona Memorial during a Prayer for Peace ceremony sponsored by the Japan Religious Committee for World Federation. The prayer ceremony followed a joint U.S. Navy/National Park Service ceremony commemorating the 67th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The theme of this year's historic commemoration, "Pacific War Memories: The Heroic Response to Pearl Harbor," emphasizes the brave efforts of those who fought at sea, on land, and in the air, to turn the tide in the Pacific. More than 2,000 distinguished guests and the general public joined service members, Pearl Harbor survivors and their families and friends for the annual observance. We have now had several letters (and even one brief phone call) from Aaron. The phone call was because of a potential problem on his physical, we should know more at the end of the week...prayers appreciated!

Remember Jim- letters from homw are treated as reward for coming together as a division so he might not see your letter for a couple ofweeks...likewise, for the first few weeks recruits won't be able to write home.....about week three they will have the ability, on Sunday's only, to write. Reminder....they have very little cash if any and must walk to NEW to get supplies...you may want to send some postage paid postcards in you letter to make life easier....also sending stamped envelopes help!

Jim, I think we all should appreciate the rain no matter what part of the state we're in. Any moisture we get is always a blessing! It seems to me that we've had a good amount of moisture this winter. I've noticed signs of green popping out here and there. It should be a colorful spring.
Actually, I don't mind the snow if I can look at it from inside, LOL. I just don't like to drive in it. I drive a 2-wheel drive pickup and it's not the best thing to use for getting around in the snow. I hold my steering wheel intensely for the 8 mile drive to work. It's a bit scary!!
I'm glad you'll be able to save on your water bill this month :)

Those of us in the Valley really appreciate both the cool temps and the rain, Paige! It means I can keep my sprinklers and drip lines turned off for another week...

Can you believe this weather!!!! It's cold and snowing yesterday and today. No 84 temps for those of us in the north country!! I can hardly wait for spring and summer!

Thanks, all, for the warm welcome! My wife and I sat down and watched the two RTC videos the other night, and I was struck with two thoughts:

1) I never saw anyone yelling at any recruit...that can NOT be right!

2) If that is how RTC is now, it is NOTHING like when I went through GLakes in 1984...
