We Render Honors to the USS Arizona

081207-N-0535P-215 PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (Dec. 7, 2008) Woody Derby, a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor, salutes the names of the deceased at the USS Arizona Memorial during a Prayer for Peace ceremony sponsored by the Japan Religious Committee for World Federation. The prayer ceremony followed a joint U.S. Navy/National Park Service ceremony commemorating the 67th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The theme of this year's historic commemoration, "Pacific War Memories: The Heroic Response to Pearl Harbor," emphasizes the brave efforts of those who fought at sea, on land, and in the air, to turn the tide in the Pacific. More than 2,000 distinguished guests and the general public joined service members, Pearl Harbor survivors and their families and friends for the annual observance. Hi everyone, hope everyone and our boys have a Merry Christmas. My son will join the USS Chancellorsville (CG 62) in February sometime. He is Point Loma now.

Haven't posted here in a while, but our son, Aaron, just completed his qualification at Prototype and will be reporting to the USS George Washington in Yokosuka on Dec. 22. Hard for Mom to know he will be so far away, especially at Christmas, but we are extremely proud of him for successfully completing hi training as a Nuclear machinist's Mate! Any other parents with GW sailors from AZ?

After Christmas sounds good to me. I will have the week off myself. My son Parker Bought his ticket last week to come home during stand down. He says he is doing well in A school and the wet wind is getting to him and he can't wait to see the sun again.

Marcy, absolutely all family members including moms. Hoping to get more input from the group and ideas for meet & greet and location (park, restaurant, etc.). Was thinking sometime in Dec. after xmas.

Any interest in getting Arizona families together for a meet & greet? I know Paul (NavyDads Admin) brought it up a while ago about getting together at PIR. What about a picnic or get together at a restaurant? Our son Alex is coming home to Phx in Dec from GL as they have stand down over the holiday. Just an idea, thoughts from the group?

Thanks! I just finished up speaking at the Southwestern Writers Conference here in Tucson and had a lot of fun talking with other writers. Next month, I will be giving the keynote address at a VA Mental Health Awareness Conference and then off to the University of Michigan to speak to the faculty there. I am humbled by the response my book is having in people's lives.

Go Navy!
