Can't wait for my Sailor to get to Goose Creek. He graduated 7/21 and is still awaiting his orders to report. Seems like there are a few stranded in Great Lakes. What could be the reason for the delay?

My son was on hold at Great Lakes for a month. Then when he got to Pensacola, it was another month before his classes even started.
There can be a lot of reasons. The Navy has to keep sailors in the pipeline or the delays could be even worse. The delays can be as simple as no room in the barracks at the "A" school base. Many times the sailors that just get done with boot camp, have to wait until there is physical room for them.
Maybe a class at A school got delayed in finishing for who knows what. The point is that many times these delays happen. This is all part of military life. Things can move very slowly. We were lucky in that we only live 100 miles from Great Lakes and could drive over on the weekends and spend some time with our son before he left for Florida. He's out of the Navy now and decided to stay there in Jacksonville.
Hang in there...
Jim
Thanks Jim! He's on his second day at O'Hare. Standby after standby. Confirmed on a flight tomorrow...
My son graduated last Friday, the 28th. He is still waiting to fly out to Goose Creek as well! Hope he gets to go soon, he was very happy to have us there last weekend.
My son graduated on July 21st too. He's still waiting to get his orders to head out to Goose Creek for A School. He's one of the last nukes from his graduating group that are still in Great Lakes awaiting orders. Rumor mill has been all over the place as to possible reasons why, from the initial final medical exam snafu to the possibility that the final security clearance weren't completed. We keep telling him to keep his head up, but it's been pretty frustrating for him as nukes from the following groups have already gotten their orders and moved on to South Carolina.
Yes, my son told us that he is waiting for a doctor to sign off on his exam, and they are very shorthanded. I hope they get to go soon, it must be very frustrating for them to have to stay there while others are shipping out!
Got a text from our son this morning, he is finally flying out to A School today!!!
