My son's PIR is Jan. 9th provided he passes everything else. I figured I may get a call this weekend letting me know if he did pass. I figured next week would be graduation practice. Does the phone call usually come a few days before PIR? I would hate to drive up there to find out he has several more weeks of bootcamp to repeat. Thanks for any input

Bill - A school does have room keys, however, they usually have one or two roommates. My son said he didn't feel his laptop, camera, cell phone, and whatever else he had was in any danger of theivery. They visit each other rooms and play video games, use each others laptops, borrow cell phones, whatever one doesn't have someone else does and they are all pretty cool about sharing and having respect with the property. If my son felt someone wasn't responsible he simply said 'no' and there weren't any hard feelings. My son is with his fleet now and there it is the same if you get a barracks with no seperate bedrooms. My son does have the seperate bedrooms which have a key for their door. .. .then they share the common area, kitchen and bathroom. Hope this helps :)

the rooms are not lock and key but their are drawers and closets that you can lock your stuff up in the room. My son said your stuff is pretty safe while in A school.

Bill,
The Navy is just like the rest of the world. I think the best you can do is teach your son how to safe guard against an opportunistic thief by for example using those security cables to tie a laptop to a bed post .

They can have this stuff? That is cool. How secure are their rooms? Is there any security? Are rooms under lock and key? My son starts in two weeks and we need to know how safe his things will be. Many Thanks, Bill

Does anyone know if game systems (X-box, PS3, ect.) are allowed at A school? I wouldn't think they are but I thought I would ask.

Anyone know which airport a recruit flying to "A" school in Goose Creek S.C. would fly out from. O Hare or Midway?

Yeah J it sounds like someone dropped the ball. The recruiter group might be a good place to also ask this question. They might have more details and have maybe seen this before. I would think that the original recruiter would be able to find out where it went wrong but I guess it is new to him too. Someone is to blame for this. Hopefully everything will work out. Keep me posted and if I find anything new I'll let you know.
