Snooky, stay AWAY from the Red Carpet!!!! We stayed there for our sons PIR and the place is a hole! And the shuttle is only if you don't have a car. Flanagan's is nice tho. Try the Extended Stay. Same price and the place is great! They have a shuttle too.
http://www.extendedstayhotels.com/hotels/chicago-waukegan-csl.html They also give a discount for the PIR families

dusty ombudsman.......I understand thats the navy policy, but my son now an E-5 has been living off base since he completed C school as a new E-4 and reported to his base. He won't be going over 2 until mid-July. So I am guessing it's like everything else.........."the needs of the Navy".

Hi, I was looking for lodging. Has anyone heard anything about, Red Carpet, that is next to Flanagans Sport bar, Rest. They have free shuttle. Or should I stick with Navy lodge or What?

define "nice weather" --- in Tucson a 90 degree day is pretty darn nice

David,

Most all of the Navy's training at RTC is indoors to simulate a ship's environment, I guess even all the way to PIR. I myself enjoyed watching the doors open and the new recruits march in. We got there around 6:30am for our sons PIR. I would have been miserable sitting outside in the sun that long. My best guess would be the weather in the Chicago area plays the biggest factor in making all PIR's indoors. But then again, I would also love to know if their is a specific reason for it.

Possibly, but having been there I'm glad it was inside. I'm not a big fan of sitting in the sun in 80 degree weather for the 2-2 1/2 hours it takes for the ceremony.THAT sucks LOL done that too many times.

Bill S- Their's got to be a better reason than standing in the sun to long. I know the Army does and the Air Force. I would think they would have a parade feild or something. By David B

I don't think they would want them standing in the sun for 2 hours
