Hello all,
I have a question about my sons enlistment. He just graduated HS and is scheduled to leave for boot in Oct. When he graduated HS he came out with his EMT-B and his 240 Firefighting cards. He is going in to become a Corpman. Now the question. Will these 2 certifications earn him anymore rank going in?

Thanks,
Steve

I have a son in boot camp with a PIR 06/05. Will the "PCS Moves Delayed Until October" issue affect him? Is there any truth to the rumor that future boot camps will be longer ( 12 weeks rather than 8 weeks ). Thanks

Cora- this is an interesting link that details much of the history of Riverine (inland waterway) operations:

Cora my adding is off
Navy active enlistment max age is 34
Navy reserves max age is 39
If you have prior service you add your years of prior service to these max ages. So take either 34 or 39 and add your years of service to these numbers and you will have you max age for re enlistment.
So if you have say, 10 years prior service in the Navy and you want to re enlist. Take 34 and tack on your ten years and you'll come up with 44. That would be the max age to re enlist as an active Sailor.

From what I gather Cora is that if you served 4 years in the Navy then you take the max age limit 34 and add the 4 years you've already served, it would be 38 years old max to re enlist. If you served 8 prior, then take 34 + 8 = 42. For reserves with 4 years prior you can be 43, if I'm correct on this. So my best guess is with 4 prior years of service you can be 38 to re enlist as active and 42 to re enlist into the reserves.

First here are the ages for non prior military experience

Active Army - 42
Army Reserves (Including National Guard) - 42
Active Air Force - 27
Air Force Reserve (inlcuding National Guard) - 34
Active Navy - 34
Naval Reserves - 39
Active Marines - 28
Marine Corps Reserve - 29
Active Duty Coast Guard - Age 27. Note: up to age 32 for those selected to attend A-school directly upon enlistment (this is mostly for prior service).
Coast Guard Reserves - Age 39.

However, prior service enlistees can receive an "age waiver." In most cases, the amount of age that can be waived depends upon the amount of time the individual previously spent in the military. For example, let's say that an individual has four years of credible military service in the Marine Corps and wants to join the Air Force. The Air Force could waive the individual's maximum enlistment age to age 31 (Maximum age of 27 for the Air Force, plus four years credible service in the Marines). For the Marine Corps, the maximum age of enlistment for prior service is 32, after computing the prior-service age adjustment.

For the Army National Guard, the maximum age for non-prior service enlistment is age 39. For the Air National Guard, it's 34. For prior service, the maximum age is 59, as long as the member is able to complete 20 years of creditable service for retirement by age 60.

I would not make any plan to do so because in most cases he will be going straight to his A school after boot camp and there is no way of knowing if he will class up when he gets there.

My son will be taking asvab this Thursday and will report after graduation some time this summer. He was told by his recruiter that he would get two weeks off after boot camp. If so he wants to plan his report date so he can be home for deer season this fall. Can anyone tell me if he will get the time off between boot and reporting for A school?

Does anyone know how soon and how often a DEP recruit can re-take the ASVAB prior to reporting? My son wants to get his scores up to qualify for another position.
