Yeah Sean..no grad packet yet or phone call but I got a 2 page letter. He says he cant figure out how to use the calling card so that explains why he hasnt called. He also said he gets leave from 12-24 to 01-03. He was really worried about what he is allowed to have at A school.

aww....I hope he picks to stay with us at the hotel for a couple of days and then fly to A school. I got a suite with a kitchen just so I could cook him Christmas dinner. =)

Jamie ~ I've heard the same thing from my son as what Sean wrote. Morgan was considering, should he get FMF, going straight to the next base, but it was his choice.

Hi Jamie, it seems that I can’t get a good straight answer. I called boot camp today again and all they told me was that he will get to chose if he wants to go home on leave when he graduates or go on to school because its during holiday stand down. I would not count on this because I did not get the feeling that who I was talking to knew what they were talking about. I would call someone else but I don’t know who.

Have ya heard anything Sean about the 12-24 ?

Some time at the begining of boot camp the division got to sit down with a classifier. He asked me if I was happy with my job and I said no. He then asked what I wanted to do and he got it for me. If your son wants to change rates in boot camp he still needs to qualify for that job he wants.

Thanks Sean.

Not to be a pain, but, did you ask to change your rate, or did the change come about because of your counseling, or something?

And, by the way, thanks for serving!

He might be able to change his job at boot camp, but I am not promising anything. I know when I went to boot I got to change mine.

Hi Sean. I am a former Gunners Mate 2nd Class, and Army officer (mustang, I think they call us!).

My son joined and left on 10/27 for BC. Somehow he got signed up as a corpsman. I have no idea how he came to that decision - nothing wrong with HM, of course. I think he was in a hurry to enlist, and said that the only thing opened for him if he wanted active versus reserves, was corpsman.

Is there a process in boot that makes sure that recruits are where they "should be", as far as careers are concerned? Or is he "stuck" with HM?

It's been 32 years since I was in boot - I'm sure things have changed since then.

Thanks for your time...

thank you Sean. I just want time after PIR (the normal day) and Christmas day would be great. If he flew out on 12-26 I would be soooo happy because then we would have time with him on 12-24 after PIR and Christmas
