I will make a call for you on Wednesday to verify to see if I get a different story.

Sean- when I called 847-688-2405 its the number on the formal letter that we can call if we have questions , they advised that the graduating units on 12-24 are grad and go, and that they will all be gone by the evening hours to their schools. Can you find out anything more concrete?

You will get more than a few hours with him. You should be getting that whole weekend with him. At the end of the weekend thats when he will leave. He will also have a cerfew at the end of each day that he will have to be back by. The Navy does not give that much time off between the two because they are trying to keep the structure from boot camp going. They give libertys back to the recruits gradually so they dont just go crazy and get into trouble after being in such a structered enviroment.

Question...I was told by the RTC office on base that all recruits graduating will be on their way to their A schools before the evening, why is there such a rush to get them off the base on into tech school. Its the holiday will their be anyone there to meet them are they really going to start training the week of Christmas? Why cant they be allowed to get the same weekend of liberty that other recruits get? It is aweful to think we are going to drive or fly to see our children's PIR then only be allowed a few hours or less with them before they are sent off to spend Christmas alone. It just does not seem fair

Cindy Chaney: If you get the address from the Recruiter I would still send letters. The one thing in boot camp that is like gold to a Recruit is letters sent from home. Words of encouragement those first few weeks mean the most. If its the wrong address at least you tried.

Michele: Talking to a Chaplain is not always confidential it depends on if it is a legal issues or thoughts of suicide and probably a few others.

David Riedthaler: "A" school is his primary job training. "C" school is a secondary specialty training on like a certain type of equipment or system.

This maybe a stupid question..........but as an old Army NCO "grunt", the Navy is a totally strange beast. Son is at Corry Station almost finished with "A" school, in about a week. He says his "C" school doesnt start until the 2nd week in Dec. As I saidI am ex -army and some what slow (too much time in the mortar pits, lol) but what exactly are "A" & "C" schools. The Army only had Basic Training then we went on to AIT ( Advanced Individual Training) for our MOS. There were other training areas but none so formalized as the Navy does it. It seems there is a ton of dead time between Navy schools, with a lot of sailors waiting for schools to start. I would try and ask my son's recruiter but he made CPO with the last group and he's harder to find then a 2nd Lt that can read a map.

I also have another question - when our son's talk to the Navy Chaplain is it confidential?

Hi Sean. Thanks for starting this group. Ask A Sailor was a great source of info....miss not being able to ask him questions. I noticed your comment to Jenene and have a question for you. I got Morgan's address from the recruiter before I got the "form letter". The address given to me was wrong. It has happened to other Mom's as well. I'm a member of N4M's and try to give out info to new BC Mom's as much as I can; however, I'm hesitant to tell them to contact the recruiter for the address. Many have mentioned they 'hope' their letters get to their son/daughter. Is it better to hold those letters until they receive the "form letter" with the correct address or use the address given by the recruiter?

His Recruiter does have the abbility to get your sons address and divison number. He is ether being lazy or does not know how to get it. I would look it up for you but his Recruiter is the only one that has access to it. Its on a N avy website and under his recruiters access only. As for him not calling you he would have only had a few minutes to cal and if he did not have a calling card or know how to call collect he my have missed his opprotunity to call. You should also be getting a package in the mail that will have all the info you need for his PIR.
