I need advice. My son got out of C school three weeks ago. He's in Reserve, so has nothing much to do Navy-wise these days. It's making him crazy. He's been going hard for 9 months, and suddenly nothing.

His specialty requires a lot of physical activity and practice in the nuts and bolts of the work. He's getting neither. It's making him nuts, and that's wearing off on me. He doesn't know what's coming next. He hasn't had a meeting with his Reserve Unit yet (not until the end of September) He would like to activate, but doesn't know what's needed or wanted.

Does anyone know who he should talk to? Are there advisers out there for someone in this situation. OPSEC makes it difficult for me to be more specific about his rating. When he enlisted, he didn't know what he would be doing, how he would like the Navy, and what his decisions meant. He was encouraged to join the reserves by his recruiters, and the bonus is attractive and all that, but he misses the Navy, and needs to get back to work.

Can anyone suggest anything?

The Nuclear Power Field generally is open (he must meet age and other requirements). Did he ever fail any math courses in high school or college? Has he thought about (or even heard) about the Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program (BDCP) (again, there are requirements he must meet). He can ask about Intelligence, Cryptology, and SPEC-OPS (the last one he needs to ask "yesterday" as there is an age requirement that he is very close to (30 - though, sometimes waived). Can he swim very well? You say he is physically fit, in regards to what standard? I told you lots of questions, but have answers too.

If you would rather discuss this in non-public setting, just send me an email at navy19902010@gmail.com

Chief West, He is physically fit. He is open to jobs. He has 2 years of college. He spent last 5 years as real estate appraiser apprentice. He got licenced but with new codes and the real estate market there is very little work. That is the reason he is looking for a new career. The Navy has been the best thing that happened to yourger brother. He has asked the recruiter about IT or Air Traffic Control. His brother was home last weekend and was talking to him about Nuclear Power as an option. He is interested in learning. He was always good in science in school.

Maripat,
Does your son have any college credits or a degree? Has he been told that he is qualified (or disqualified) for the Nuclear Power Program? Is he physically fit? Has he expressed a desire for a specific job or is he open? Lots of questions, but lots of answers available too.

My youngest son has been in Navy for 2 years. His brother has decided he also wants to join. He went to local recruiter, he is 29 and was told his age didn't matter. He took the ASVAB and scored 75. Now the recruiter is telling him he can't take him to MEPS He said can only take him beginning of month because the Navy is only taking girls at present time. Said has to wait til next month but no guarantee. Any suggestions, he is really wants to join?
