A little follow up here. The books are by a publisher called "Learning Express" the first one is called "The Complete Preparation Guide" ASVAB and comes with the CD. The second is titled "ASVAB Power". The publishers website is LearnATest.com, hope this helps.

I bought my son some study guides at Barnes&Noble and they were really great. One came with a CD for the electronic version of the ASVAB and the other had written practice exams in it. He scored an 83 on his test. He studied and practiced for about a month before taking the test.

Jim,
You're welcome. I count it part of my service to my country. I am certainly glad to help and as glad that y'all started this forum where people can get the "straight skinny" for themselves, their sons or daughters.

Jim,
An applicant can take the ASVAB multiple times, but for the first three, there has to be 1 month between each exam. After the 3rd one, one must wait 6 months.

On a similar note, if she wants to know how to best study for a better score, have her PM me.

Thanks. His specialty is undermanned at this time, so he's frustrated.

Interesting, I was talking to a kid a few weeks ago at the local GNC and he's a Reservist and has been trying to go Active for almost a year now. Not sure if he's des or undes but the available positions are obviously limited. Hopefully starting C School soon is a good sign. Good luck to him.

My son graduated A School yesterday and has his first week off. He got the rating he wants, but is Reserve, and wants to go Active. No one seems to know how he can do this. He's starting C School in a week, in a specialty that is usually not for reservists, and it seems a shame to waste all this time waiting tables while waiting to be called up. Can anyone help with changing from Reserve to Active?

To all,
I have been out of pocket for a bit, just want to apologize for the lack of information flow from this ol' salt to y'all!

I will be changing duty stations in July - going where sailors are meant to be - SEA! If any one would like to continue asking questions after Jun 30, I will be on still - just know that after a season, I will not have pertinent information as I do now, but what I have, I will impart to you.

If you do not contact me or if we don't communicate, this Chief Petty Officer wants to thank each and everyone of you for your support of not only your sons and daughters, but of our Navy and our country!

Hooyah!

Robert Paul Keahi Tuitavuki,
Have you received any word on your son's situation?
