That's the answer. He told us he'd had his security clearance already, but they are doing a more thorough one now. He called again for more information tonight at 9:00. He's learning that while you're up, you're at work.

as far as I can tell you list his rate as IS...he requires a security clearance and they are doing a background check

Me all worried again.
I got a call today from the Personnel Security Office at Great Lakes. I talked for about 10 seconds to my son, who said he couldn't talk, but needed some information off his cell phone, which I couldn't find. He said he was O.K., but what in the world is this call about? It's out of the ordinary, and he sounded very distracted. AAAAugh!

Steve,
Sorry to hear about your missing your phone call. You will not be able to call him, and within a day or two after his shipping out, your recruiter will have your son's address. Give him/her a call and they should be able to give that to you.

My son shipped on Pearl Harbor Day. I missed his 2 minute call (it came in at 1:00 am, and for some reason had an Arizona area code) So I've heard nothing. I can't get a phone answer at the recruiting center, and so have no address to write him.

What can I do?

I spoke to the recruiting district today. Turns out, the bonuses are paid out depending on when the contract was signed and the ship date. My son reclassified to CTI on Aug 4th but would have had to ship by Sept 1st. There were no A School seats open then. He would have gotten a $12,000 bonus.

Philip,
My son originally went into DEP as AEF/sonar Tech. When a new recruiter-in-charge was assigned, he was reviewing the DEPer files and saw Mark's ASVAB scores. He called and asked if anyone had spoken to him about CTI. He told us all about it and that it was paying an enlistment bonus, which ST was not. So he took the DLAB, did very well and they reclassified him. I asked about the bonus and they said they would have to look into it. So we waited, and nothing. We printed off the page from Navy.com and gave it to them. About two weeks later they told us the story that the website is not run by the Navy and that is was out of date.

The website is still saying CTIs get a sign on bonus. I have posted the question on the the Recruiting District's FB page.

Mark,
The biggest reason is... are you ready?>>>> The Economy. We like others, have a budget and we can only operate within guidelines. I would ask you though, did your son get the bonus on paper (his DEP) contract?

Can you tell me why Navy.com advertises a sign-on bonus for CTI and now doesn't pay it? This happened to my son.
