A comment for Jamie (Coty's Mom)- My daughter Holly PIR'd back in July and we literally had less than 5 minutes with her before they shipped her out to A School. She had originally been slated to have the whole weekend off but they kept changing her orders to G&G. After the ceremony we saw her on the floor for about 2 minutes and then she had to collect her gear. She met us in the visitor center for another 2 minutes and then she had to actually run to get on her bus for the airport. My suggestion would be to plan for the worst and hope for the best. The Navy had chartered a flight to P-Cola so there wasn't even any time at the airport. BTW, I still wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Cheif,
When I spoke to him he told me he had the paper work. Not sure if he meant a copy. I am going to call him right now.

Chief, that is what I thought. Since he is going to DLI, he could be there for up to 2 years and I am not sure what part of it is considered the A School part. This is CT stuff is confusing, and I was a command career councelor while in the reserves ( I was OS2 when I got off active duty and did it the hard way...E1 and up LOL)

Mark,
Normally when someone has a 6 year hitch, they automatically will be advanced in/from A school (provided they graduate) as an E-4.

Larry,
Do you mean that the recruiter had the paperwork in his hand at that time (when you spoke to him)? Do you have your son's copy of his DEP Contract?

Sean, my son entered as an E3. He did two years in JROTC and one year in US Naval Sea Cadets. He is in a 6 year enlistment for CTI. My question is when will he be eligible for E4? When I was in during the late 70's , you had time-in-service and time-in-rate requirements to meet. Also, if he is in A School and hasn't achieved his actual rate yet, how can he be a Petty Officer? So, after taking the long way around the barn, how long will he have to remain an E3? I believe his contract said after graduation from A School.

Thanks Chief. I'm not sure exactly what he did. The recruiter said he had his e-2 paper work in his hand when I spoke to him. Probably to late to get this corrected now. I will call him later today to find out.

John,
For boot camp attendees during the holidays, no, they do not get "time off". They will get a day or so (Christmas), but not to travel or meet with family members. My son was there this time last year, so I know that you would want it to happen. Part of the process for all of us.
2nd question - Grad and go's are such personnel that have to leave to their particular school based on commencing dates of particular schools. If his/her school commences on Monday/Tuesday, then they are a "Grad and Go".

Larry,
All recruits (with very few exceptions)go to boot camp as an E-1. I am uncertain what advanced Physical Qualifications you are speaking about, unless your son did the Personnel Qualifications Standard (PQS) and also performed the required Physical Training Test (known as an IFA), he would next have to take the IFA, take a written exam in boot camp, to gain the next rank. If all this was done and the paperwork was submitted then his pay should have been started in his 1st check.
