I love the Cod going BOOM! It shows that these young kids are in control of the mightiest Navy in world and having fun doing it. HooYah! Go Navy!

I hope you have a great fathers day too, Brad.

Thanks, EG

I wanted to take a moment and wish you all a very special Father's Day! As the result of the character you instilled into your sons and daughters, they have become the awesome, special, brave, skilled men and woman we are all proud of. Your efforts as great fathers shine though them. Your love for them is no less than a mother's, just different; strong, silent with steadfast perseverance, always caring with a love deep within us rarely shown as we check our emotions, but there never the less. You should enjoy the love and respect coming back to you on this special day, for you have more than earned it! Enjoy your Father's Day!

Garrett, just sent an e-mail for Father's day. In it he recalled a funny thing that happen yesterday. After FOD walk down they told everyone there would be a "fly by" and if you wanted to see it to stay up on deck. Most everyone stayed up. After a while low and behold a Cod (a big propeller plane used to deliver mail and such) comes rumbling by and the guy on the speaker said “BOOM….. simulated” like it broke the sound barrier. LOL!!
The guys must have enjoyed that one!

I will check with Garrett regarding the "competition" you mentioned. I wouldn't be surprised if Evan is right, since the GW has been laid up for many months for repairs and this is their first time out this year. No doubt they needed the practice this gave them to get better and ready for the "real time" work when it comes. After resurching the GW's history, and tremendous successes in competitions when stationed in the Atlantic Fleet before getting the honor to be the first Nuclear carrier to port in Japan, I have no doubt that with their history and after more time back at sea, the GW would weclome a rematch! You might be surprised at the results. Two great carriers with rich histories to be proud of for sure! Working together to become the best in the world. Go Navy!

Yes, I bet it was a sight to see. As you guys know Evan is on the Reagan and working with the arresting gear catching jets. When I asked him about this he said he was to busy catching birds to take it in. He said the two carriers raced to see who could launch and recover the planes the fastest. Now these are his words not mine, He said the Reagan kicked their butt! It wasn't even close! But keep in mind, he's working on the roof of the Reagan. Can't wait to see the pics Brad.
Go Navy!

I would have liked to have see these two flat tops together at sea.

Today I received an exciting e-mail form my son, Garrett who is on the GW. While out in the Pacific yesterday, their battle group met up with the Reagan and it's battle group. He said it was very cool to see all the ships come up close together. Then they had a hot "fly by" he said must have been close to the sound barrier. The Reagan then pulled up along side the GW for some photo ops before turning around to leave. Everyone was very excited. He will try to send some pics when they get to Perth, Australia. I will upload them as soon as they come in! It must have been very powerful to see and be a part of the strength of the US Navy!

The GW is back out as of today. I got a call from Garrett just befoe they left port. They will be out until late Aug or the first of Sept we think. All is well so far. Due to no internet in his room when he got back he couldn't upload his pics. Well have to wait, possibly when they get to Australia when he can get service again. It was great to hear his voice though before they left.

The USS Geaorge Washington is back in port in Japan for a couple of days before they leave for a much longer tour. Garrett says he is glad to be back on shore for a bit before they go out again, maybe next week! I can't wait to see the pictures he took. I will share when they get in.

Andrew was not deployed to the middle east as he arrived after the squadron left.
