Greetings all, been away for awhile but glad to see you're still encouraging each other. Carl, I've never been stationed at NAS Whidbey, but I have visited there several times- beautiful location and small town feel. We have friends in a local church there and even camped at nearby Ft. Eby. You need to go there for a visit, but be sure to catch the ferries and see the sights on the Kitsap Peninsula and the Olympic National Park. Awesome!

Andrew enjoyed his short time at Whidbey Island. He made some good friends both on and off base. He noticed that he was now being treated like a sailor not a student that needed baby sitting. He was treat like he could be responsible on his own.

The base is located about 80 miles north of Seatle, WA in puget sound. The temps. aversge between 80 and 30 year round. When winter weather comes look out the Island is not equiped for much snow fall.
The base seems to have an active single sailor program. Here are a couple of web sites that will get you started.

Gratz to Garrett. Sounds like he is going on an adventure.

Chuck, I was just wondering what the base is like and what kinda things to do. Also, what he might want to watch out for. You know, all those parent things when their kid is headed to a new place.

My son Garrett, just graduated from SERE in California. As some of you know that's not a lot of fun, but all airborne need to go through it. He did fine and now is waiting for his flight to Japan to serve with the HS-14 Chargers as AW/Rescue Swimmer with the USS George Washington. He flys out Thursday morning, and he expects to be out there between 2 and 3 years until the GW comes back to San Deigo in the cycle to get new Helo's, etc. It was great to pin the Wings, but now it will be tough to have him call saying goodby for a long time far away. I know he is excited about his adventure and is looking forward to finally using all the training for the past two years in the fleet and hopefully save those who he looks up to fighting for his freedom.

Zac, my son, just graduated "A" school in Pensicola. Waited about 3 weeks for orders. He is headed to Whidbey Island NAS . He told me he was attached to VAQ 140 Patriots. He is supposed to do "C" school there. Anyone know anything about that base?

Chuck I understand your son's problem. . . my son in Virginia Beach said the same thing, although it sounds as though things may be a bit closer than your son's. My son got his car back on the road over the Christmas leave and he sounds much better over the phone since being able to get the things he needs now and not depend on a shipmate. He laughs because now he is the taxi to shipmates lol. I hope your son is able to get something going :).
