Hi Jim, what is it with young men and sketchy info? There are many ratings that can go aircrew, and many that can be flight engineer, but I can't tell you what his rating is or if he already passed the physical part. Only he can tell you those specifics. Please keep us informed with his progress. Thanks!

I spent 2 summers at North Island on Coronado. Beautiful place and definitely worth a visit from Mom and Dad! They have a Navy Lodge there, so Evan should be able to help you get a room when you go see him. Nothing like a Nimitz class carrier to serve aboard! When you walk up to the pier it's like looking at a huge vessel from Star Wars or something. Glad to hear he did so well, maybe he can inspire some of the others to such excellence. Will he get leave en route? I know you'll want to see him.

Thanks Kevin. He is hearing 4 hours of sleep a day. He hears some guys don't bother going to the bunks for the 4 hours of sleep. They do it somewhere close to the flight deck. He found out he was top on his test and got first pick today. He is headed for sunny California, San Diego on the USS Ronald Reagan. A long way from home. I hear it is the most beautiful place though. ttyl

Hi EG, Good question...of course, everyone thinks that their rating works harder and longer than the next. Makes for good sea stories! Anyway, I do know that most ABs will work from before flight ops begin to after they end. The "normal" shift for aviation folks is a half-day...12 hours on , 12 off! However, I've seen lots of guys pulling an extra 2 or 3 hour shift to get the job done.

Kevin I have a question. Evan says that an ABE works very long shifts probly longer than anyone on the roof. Is their any truth to this. It is what he's heard.

Is anybody interested in information on the AD, AE, AG, AK, AM, AO, AS, AW, or AZ ratings? I can add the rating roadmaps for them if there's interest. Please see discussion forum for ABE, ABF, ABH, AC, and AT ratings (ie college credit)

Are you kidding?? The chow in the CPO mess is top-notch!! Watch out for the fast food lines...sometimes the liquid-fried french fries get globbed into a pasty mass, but the sliders are usually edible! Great attitude...if it's not fun, then it's time to do something else! I liked working the "roof", just be careful up there, and keep your head "on a swivel".

I know for a fact that it will be fun on a carrier, if not then I'll make it fun. I'll make another video just like the one EG posted up. One bad thing though. I hear that the food is not all that good.

Just wanted to say Hi to all. I watched a show on tv the other night about the USS Ronald Reagan. Wow! The flight deck is a busy place. Launching and recovering planes all day and night. While our boys and girls are out to sea they will not be bored. It is controlled mayham at it's best. The flight deck will be an awesome experience for our children.
