My daughter left oct 6th and PIR is Dec 5th. She called me yesterday while i was at work for some information.. I was so pumped to get to talk to her. She is doing great and loving it. That really put this father at ease.. I can now sleep better at night knowing my little girl is happy.. LOL

Our daughter just graduated so maybe I can offer some information from our experience. Our daughter called us 4 times while in boot camp, plus the shut up and listen call the night she arrived. Three of these calls were on Sundays and she got a fourth as some sort of reward. The caller ID always said "Chicago Pay Phone". She usually got about a 1/2 hour to talk. Maybe your recruit will be different but our daughter usually did all of the talking and we listened. Try to make a short list of important things you want to ask or tell them when they call because you will forget in all of the excitement. Ask them to order all of the pictures, graduation video, etc. that you want and this way you won't have to deal with this on graduation day. Also, work out some sort of way for them to spot you after graduation. There are tons of people and all the graduates look the same in their blues. Maybe have someone in your group wear a yellow jacket or something. This way you don't waste valuable time trying to find each other. I hope this helps.
Yea she usually calls me because i will answer my phone. LOL Plus her mom is a teacher and she has her phone off in the day while at work. I dont expect many calls so we just write. Yea at PIR i told her to stand still and stay where she is at after liberty call is made. I will know where she is and i will walk to her.. I went through this with my parents but a longgggg time ago. LOL some things have changed but some things have stayed the same. I know after we graduated boot we didnt leave for our schools until the next week. Now they kick them out that weekend.. LOL
I actually have already had 3 calls from her. Granted 2 of them were for Security questions but i still got to talk to her a little bit. She is doing awesome and is loving it. She said she never really felt home sick. She was ready to get away from small town Louisiana.. I told her pretty much what to expect for boot camp and she has a great attitude about it and even sounds happy and a lot more confident on the phone. I'm very proud of her because at home, to be honest, she wasnt a lot of fun to have around.. LOL But i hear maturity in her voice now when i talk to her so i guess my little girl is growing up... Very proud of my S.R.
Congrats Daron on the multiple calls you've received from your daughter. My son arrived at boot camp on Oct 7th...I got the call announcing arrival at the airport, then a call once he arrived at camp and just this past Sunday (26th) I got my first lengthy call. Good advice by David above about making the list...in the excitement I forgot to ask a few things...but most importantly I heard from "him" directly that he is thriving. It seems a few days ago I said goodbye and here we are in a few weeks, I'll be at his PIR (Dec 5th). Congrats to you and your daughter...I heard the same confidence and maturity in my son's voice...so yes I agree, growing up is a definite. Proud of my SR as well...thanks for sharing.
Wife informed me last night that we will be going to the meet and greet. LOL She is on Navy Moms sight and its a big deal there as well. So unless something comes up we plan to attend.
Right on Daron. I'm staying at the Navy Lodge but I may be heading straight to Sarge's Meet-n-Greet on Thursday as we arrive in Milwaukee near 3:30pm and I believe the event starts at 4:45pm. Hope to meet and congratulate you and your wife in-person. Halfway there...30 days until PIR...can you believe that!
