Navy Dads

Hi all!  I'm a mom not a dad, but I was a single mom for many years...does that count?  Does anyone else out there have a child leaving for Great Lakes on the 19th?  If so I would love to hear from you.  The closer it gets the more emotional I become.  I am so proud of my son!!

Hi Cheryl...I'm a Navy wife, mom & now grandma, so Welcome Aboard!  this site is awsome for the support you will need, wished it was around when my boys grad GL!  The PIR (pass in Review) is awesome...if you think you are proud now, wait til you see the day your son graduates!  Tears will flow...you will beam ever so brightly at his accomplishment and...get ready for his NEW life...so many adventures to come.  My grandson's PIR date is Aug 12th...so he hasn't been gone that long yet, but we do miss him alot! Stay in touch!

My son is now in C school in San Diego but he spent 17 months in Great Lakes with boot camp and A school and many hold times. It's hard to let him go but I guarantee you that you will see a completely different person when you go to graduation. The maturity and responsibility are amazing to see! Good Luck, you're in for a great ride. Check out NavyforMoms.com and you will find a group with your son's bc date. I spoke to many moms during boot camp time and then we all met up at graduation. It was great.
Countdown...6 more days till my son leaves for bootcamp...I'm a basketcase!

July 19th, your son leaves today. We're over halfway through Boot Camp and anxiously awaiting the Aug 12th graduation. We've received a couple of letters, and he's doing great. Your son is going to great and serve honorably for our country.

But the feelings of missing him won't go away. We love them and are used to having them close, so it's a big change, but a good one!

Congrats!

John

Just got Back from Meps and the Airport. He's Now sitting at OHare Uso. I Miss him already. I'm kinda glad I didn't get my vacation time this week.  Work will keep me from being a total basket case.
Just got the short and sweet call. It's now official, I AM a BASKETCASE!

Howdy Cheryl,

My son is spending tonight at the MEPS Station in Houston, TX tonight...then off to RTC in the morning.  His name is Jake Douglass.

Hang in there, Cheryl, it will all be worth it!  Good thing you have a job to go to...time will go a little faster for you. Heard from my grandson today, he passed swim and his group is doing so much better, I'm happy for him!

Cheryl, My youngest son left today, July 19th and I just received a 20 second call from him, he sounded tired after spending 6 hours waiting at the airport and then the flight to Chicago. I thought I was prepared as a father having served in the ARNG but I fell apart when I got home after dropping him off. Tears of joy, I now know. I am planning on attending PIR in September or whenever it takes place.
Hey Cheryl, you will be fine...yes very hard but it gets better. Work and my garden makes the days go by. PIR for my son is August 19th....I can not wait. Yours will get there as well. Lots of support out there for all of us....

I'll be there! I am estimating Sept 16. My son spent quite awhile at the airport also.
