Navy Dads

Hi all. I GOT THE 2ND CALL!! It was a great 10 min talk. But it went by sooooo fast. Here are a few things he told me.

His is on ship 9 and Div 079. And his PIR is 2/11/11.

He said a few other companies were getting ready to make calls as well so you might get one today!

A few things he said about his 1st 6 days were...

ALOT of yelling. Food/Breakfast were really good...

Buildings were nice and warm.

ALOT of marching and getting to know each other withen the Div.

If you got wisdom teeth stand by cause they will all get yanked out.

Getting 8 hours of sleep but sometimes they go to bed at 2000 and get up at 0400.

Learning Quarter deck watches already! Wow......

COLD COLD COLD....

Their Pdays end tomorrow and 1-1 DAY starts.

Finally. Again he shipped on the 14th. So if your sailor shipped around this time and is having no problems...Im gonna say his or her PIR will be 2/11/11.

Hope this helps some.

Good luck to you and yours

Shawn

My son is in the same division as yours Shawn, Ship 09 Div 071 and he shipped on December 13.

No second call for us though.

Mine had already has his wisdom teeth extracted so no surprises there.

Hey Shawn, my daughter shipped on the 15th. You already got a call? The 1st phone call said about 3 weeks. I've been worried sick, your post gives a lot of much needed hope. Still no 2nd call but anxiously  waiting....Thanks!

I dont get why you guys didnt hear from them. He said others were waiting to make calls. Im sure you guys will be getting yours very soon. We did get his mail and his company is Ship 9 Div 71 for sure.  He did tell me he wasnt sure he was going to be able to call christmas day. Im thinking the company may be very big and they are letting half call now and the rest on christmas. Im hoping you guys hear some good news soon. Ill be prayin for ya and any new info i get..ill pass it ASAP.

remember these words:  No News Is Good News !

I know you and mama might be anxious to find out how your sailor is doing, but the Navy has to transfrom these kids that have probably never been away from home into sailors and one of the most important parts of that is "cutting the apron strings" that tie your recuit to home.  Sounds rough but please have faith!  If there was an issue you would have heard from your sailor or the Navy...remember that that if you thnk two weeks is rough, there is very good chance they will end up deployed in the fleet for 6 or 7 months with virtually no calls.....this process is as much a leraning process for you as it is for your sailor!!

I wonder if we could change the title to OFFICIAL: SHIP 9 DIV 071

since that is the division we are talking about?

We got the "form letter" yesterday -- of course the "comments section" was completely empty.   So if the lad has formed any opinions of Navy boot camp, he is keeping it to himself. Our son was already away from home for three semesters  of college so we are used to not hearing from him for months at a time, and having him gone for half the year.  So it is not such a big deal to go three weeks with no contact, for us at least, since he has already lived away from home before for longer than this.  He will turn 21 in boot camp.   It will be nice to get a letter from him in a few weeks though.  I do sympathize with parents whose kids joined after high school where it is a bigger transition for mom and dad.

We were not planning to go to the boot camp graduation, it is 1,000 miles from home.  When he graduates Nuclear Power School a year later we would go to that graduation. My understanding is the nuke candidates  are Grad and Go so we would not be able to see much of him even if we did travel to boot camp.   During the summer we might visit him in A school but he gets 10 days leave after A school.  We might drive his car down there and drop it off it he wants it during A school.

I do notice his printing is much neater than before they must work on penmanship.   My wife also noticed this.

Anyone else around from this division?  Mighty quiet here ... too quiet. Haha.
