I was wondering when the recruits are going to be able to call home and talk for a while. Brian wrote a letter on the 25th. of Feb. and we didn't recieve it until the 2nd. of March. He is doing fine and said that he has had his wisdom teeth pulled and ended up in sic bay. I hope he didn't have any complications from the extractions. I hope everyone is hearing from their recruits and the recruits are hearing from the parents as well.

Van,
Please don't take me as an authority, as I only have 1 more week worth of experience than you do. My son's PIR is scheduled for 04/01. We have actually received 3 phone calls from Sam. The regular call (the one you are looking for) came after his training week #2, which was actually his 3rd week plus at GL. That call came on Friday, Feb 25 in the late afternoon. I was still at work when the call came and my wife got to talk to him for about 10 minutes. The first call was at 1:30am after his arrival at RTC, the second call, about a week and a half later, was because his bank routing number wasn't correct. I will bet that since you didn't get a call this past Friday, you will get one next Friday. I pray that you do, sir. It is a joy to hear from them.

We were out for dinner this evening and forwarded our home phone to my cell in case Brian might get a chance to call and he did! He sounded good, but had developed the start of a cold he said probably due to their marching outside in the snow and now the rain. My wife and I were very glad to hear from him and you could already detect the sound of maturity in his voice. He was telling us about the meshing together of his unit he is in, the 921 and the team building which is going on. I asked him if he had to do it over again would he do it? He responded with yeah I would which enforces my perception and his perception that he did the right thing. He told me he has never been exposed to a situation where it's detail, detail, and more detail but he is adjusting as is everyone.
It is a special feeling knowing that your son or daughter is serving and if necessary fighting for the country they love.
