My son Logan is also on ship 07 Div 043, we have received the Navy form letter but nothing else to date. I was really hoping for a Thanksgiving call...but no luck on that. Logan is an only child and we have been a pretty close family, so having him go into boot camp over the holidays is all the tougher. Never the less we are very proud parents who know he will do well...it is us I am more worried about. Though I know that is a little selfish on our part. If you hear from your son I would love to know.
Actually just got a letter...but as of that date he hadn't received ours. Hope everyone else is equally blessed with words from their children soon.

Welcome Karl, was glad to see that i finally got to chat with someone that is in the same DIV as my son Tim. We too got our first actual letter from our son today, it was great to hear from him, he sounds so up beat. We hope Logan is doing well also. It would be nice to meet up with you at the graduation in January, where will you be staying?
We just started getting our air travel worked out and have no definate plans yet. We are flying in from California on Wednesday most likely and staying until Tuesday. Might spend Wednesday night in Chicago and then stay in Waukegan or somewhere else close the rest of the time. Our recruiter told us the Navy Lodge might be available on base at a good price. I will update you when we figure out where we are going to stay. I am glad to hear your son is in good spirits, ours is as well. In fact it was kinda funny, sounded more like a letter from summer camp, then boot camp. You know...having a great time, making lots of new friends, food is great... In fact he seemed far more concerned with the health of our injured Labrador back at home than anything the Navy is throwing at him.

Karl, just a quick note, in my son Tim's letter he indicated that he believes he is a "grad and go",check with Logan to see about his status. Don't know just how much time we will be able to spend with Tim before he ships out:(
We think Logan is a Grad 'n' Go as well. But his A School is in advaced electronics so we have been told he stays in Great Lakes for A school. We think he has to check-in to his new barracks after graduation, but should have leave for the weekend (until 8 pm at night). This is of course if the information we have received from the Navy is accurate. Accurate information has not been their forte' to this point.
After reading mixed reviews on half the area motels, I decided to stay at the Navy Lodge. It is only a mile from the entrance and while it is nothing fancy it is a good price and people my wife talked to on Navy Moms said it was safe, clean and a great value. 6 nights for $390 is tough to beat.
Has anyone from our division received a phone call yet?
Well ladies and gentlemen, i was the lucky recipient of a 45 min phone call this evening and things are going well for Tim and he is extremely happy with the choice he made and cant wait to see the family. Boy was it nice to hear his voice, we both got a little teary eyed and chocked up but after the initial min or two, we were all ok. God bless these young men and women and can't wait to meet you other parents and your children at PIR. Hope you all get to have a call sometime real soon too.

has anyone heard about a meet and greet for the PIR 1/14/11 group families?
