Navy Dads

Thought I would start an area for this group to share any specifics on what we're hearing from our sailors concerning BC or PIR.

After a long wait we got our first letter yesterday! It felt really good. Our son, Jon, sounded very positive. Not a lot of detail but nothing bad. Said there is a lot of marching, PT, cleaning and making racks. Sounds like boot camp to me.

I just got my first letter from my son December 30th.  It was about 4 sentences long, so no details about what he is doing.  He did write short notes to several family members too, so have to give him credit for that. He just says they don't have much free time to write and more later.
My wife is on the Navy for Moms site which has a Ship 9 Div 69 group. She's heard that there have been some issues that have impacted freedoms. Again no details but most likely the standard issues they normally deal with in the first 3 weeks. My son actually said the routine was beginning to relax a bit. Hope we hear more from him soon.
Thanks, appreciate the info.  Hopefully they will learn from the "issues".  I'm sure it is a rude awakening for many of them.
No phone call over New Years weekend. Hope to get another letter this week. From what my wife is seeing on her Navy Moms site everybody in this group is getting the same, one letter and no call.
Same here so far 1 letter and no call yet. I guess no news is good news also.

Hey guys. We got 3 more letters from our son today! Sounds like things are going pretty good. He's progressing well. He has passed the first PFA or physical test. He did say the group had some IT "intense training" due to some poor choices but they're learnng to work together as a group. Says they were told not to give details about what they are doing. He did say they took a 1.5 mile march in a blizard to the supply store and "it was awesome"! He also said they should get a call soon. We're waiting on that. Hope you guys got some news as well.
2 letters here today all seems good. The letter on the 26th  said they had prime rib and ham on Christmas and an extra 5 minutes to eat it. He also said it was holiday routine and he was ironing clothes and polishing boots. Also thinks the snow is weird. On the 31st talked about friends he was making , food is eh in his words and eats cereal with every meal. Other than that just some family stuff and seems to be doing well. maybe a call this week. I'll have to ask him about the blizzard march hahaha.
Got a short letter last night.  No details about what he has been doing other than he was able to put some of the skills he learned in Boys Scouts to use.  He said they pulled his wisdom teeth and he is doing ok.  No call yet either.
Got a phone call from my son yesterday afternoon.  It was very short, but great to hear his voice!  He has passed all the tests so far, next up Battle Stations 21.  He said they had been getting a lot of intense pt, he is tired, but doing ok.  I forgot to ask him about the blizzard march.
Hey Jim, my name is Brian and my daughter Shawna left for GL on 01/04/11.  You mentioned your son had his wisdom teeth pulled there.  Shawna went in knowing she would have to do that, probably as soon as she got there.  I was wondering how that went?  Did they pull your son from BC or do it before he actually started?  How long did he get to recover and was he able to contact you because of the unusual medical issue?  Congratulations on your son's hard work so far.  Thanx, BT

Hi Brian, They pulled my son's teeth the third week of BC.  He said it went fine, I think he was sick in quarters for 2 days, then back to it.  The only bad part was he had a tough day or two when the pain meds ran out, but all better now.  No he didn't get to call home or anything.  We found out from a letter after the fact.  I'm sure Shawna will do fine, it's just hard not knowing.  Best of luck.   Jim
