Ship 09 Div 69 - PIR Feb. 11th

We got our first call on Friday evening the 7th about 6pm. My wife took the call. She said he sounded good. He's doing well with the PT. He's passed all the first PT test. Felt like the things he did to prepare for BC are really paying off. He said the group had done well on their latest inspections and received a flag as recognition. He is working with the Petty Officer over the weapons and enjoying that. He said there are a lot of good guys in his group. He's enjoying meeting people from all around the country. Still not giving us a lot of details. They were told not to and he seems to be taking that serious. Better to be safe than sorry in this case. He said everything is still on tracking for PIR at this point.

 

Has anybody planned your PIR trip yet? We've book our room and flight. The flight prices started going up so we locked them in. We were thinking they would continue to rise because of fuel cost but now they've gone down. Go figure. We're staying at the Residence Inn. Not bad prices for a 2 room suite and others that have attended PIR's recommended it. There are 4 of us traveling and hope our son can come and hang out for a while. There seem to be some other go options in the area as well. Also, there are a few social events on Thursday night. Hope to see you while we're there.

Hey Wes,  Great news on getting the phone call from your son.  Sounds like everything seems to be on track so far.  I have plane reservations made, but haven't decided on hotel yet.  Hope to meet you while we are there.

Got a call friday around 3 pm pacific time. Unfortunately I was at work but my wife got to talk to him for 30 minutes. Every thing is good hes happy with his choice and  has passed everything so far. I guess he got to call because he scored # 2 on some test so we might get another call next week . from what she said he's gotten 2 promotions to petty officer???? does this sound right ??? wish I could have talked to him time is going fast so before we know it we'll be there. I've got the week of and the week after PIR off of work so  were going to make an adventure out of it stop in Amarillo and see some of my wifes friends and family. and then take it from there we have reservations from thursday through tuedsay night and will head home on wednesday he's staying there for A school so we will have the weekend to see him at least.

Got a call on Friday and his mom got the call. He tried to call my phone but it did not ring got two voice mails from the boy. He told mom that  he was on track for PIR on 2/11/2011 and all was going well. Did not have to have his wisdom teath pulled and filed one tooth. In one of the letters he did let us know that he is on the cleanup crew.  Have booked air, car and hotel stay. Hope to see yall there.

Jim D, and all.   Sorry about he off-track question (not being involved with your specific ship/div).  But thank you so much for the quick response.  As I'm sure you know the slightest bit of info. can make parents feel so much better.  From yours and other info. I see the actual answer (wisdom teeth) can very depending on the situation.  Congratulations to all and may God continue to bless us!  Go NAVY !

Hi Brian, They pulled my son's teeth the third week of BC.  He said it went fine, I think he was sick in quarters for 2 days, then back to it.  The only bad part was he had a tough day or two when the pain meds ran out, but all better now.  No he didn't get to call home or anything.  We found out from a letter after the fact.  I'm sure Shawna will do fine, it's just hard not knowing.  Best of luck.   Jim

Hey everybody. Got another letter today. He didn't sound quite as perky in this one. Maybe a touch of home sickness but no bad news. He seemed a little frustrated with the IT they've had. That's when they all get punished for whatever happened that the CO didn't like. That's just part of it. He said they were a push group which I've read means thier BC is excelerated. Before we know it PIR will be here!

I got a letter from my son yesterday.  He said they were finally starting to lighten up and division was starting to pull together.  Imagine that, the two seem to be related.  He was very upbeat and everything seemed to be on track.

Working late tonight but spoke to my wife and I have letter waiting on me at home! This one is addressed to me! The other letters have been to my wife or both of us. I have to give him credit, he knows who to keep happy, mom! If I don't get home soon so she can read my letter she won't be happy with me. Hope to have some good news to post later.

Same here one to my wife and one to me. We also got a letter the other day saying it was a mandatory letter that they made him write. He said he didnt have much to say since he wrote 2 days earlier. He sounds great He got a promotion to E2 and is a supervisor of quarterdeck crew or something like that. He did say time was flying by so thats a good sign. were almost there! We're leaving in just 2 weeks for PIR cant wait !

My son sounded good in his latest letter. He's enjoying working with the PO over weapons. PT is going well. Said the commanders were all pretty cool for commanders. Everything is on track for PIR.

Got a call today from my son and was abale to talk for about 45 mins, mom amd his sister and the grand son were with me so we all got to say hi. Was good to hear his voice. All was going well and was on track for PIR 02/11/11

I got a call from my son yesterday as well.  He said thing are going well. Still on schedule for PIR 2/11/11.  He said they would be doing firefighting this week.  Said since they were doing well, they got to have junk food and call home.  It was great to hear his voice.  Looking forward to PIR, booked flight and hotel (Hilton Garden Inn).
